Osman you are certainly entitled to free speech; however, if you yell fire in a movie theater there will be backlash. Sencho is one of the owners of the MOO3 Forum house. I don't know which particular thread you are refering to, so I can't speak to specifics, but I assume as an owner Sencho was basically telling you to either stop/get out. Please remember that most moderators are not paid and must deal with hundreds of posts.

I would ask that you not clutter up this forum with MOO stuff. Thanks.

Free speach extends to the internet, generally in more ways than it does in real life. You can always set up your own web site and preach whatever you want, just like you can step up on soap box in the middle of a public park and say your piece. This doesn't mean that you have the right to say what you want in a place owned by someone else. On any forum the owners/moderators have the right to remove whatever they want. Unless they make a legal agreement granting you the right to free speach you will have claim.

Also the U.S constitution doesn't necessarily apply on the Internet as it is global and any site can be hosted pretty much anywhere. Its still a bit of an international legal black hole, which is probably a good thing all i all

Osman- the MOO forum is owned by IG. They can regulate the content. It is clear by now that the IG MOO forum is not the place for discussion of the games merits and faults. It has become a jr. highschool playground. Best to steer clear, you are wasting your time voicing opinions. The moderators are shellshocked. If you say Hi, I'm new here you may get slammed. "What? you TROLL! How DARE you. Youre NEW? What do you mean by that? I think you are a...a...a SPY! Yes..yes! a spy come to sow dissent. No..youre a...a...WITCH! yes! a witch. burn him!!!"
The only reason I check it from time to time is too get info on the patch.

The MOO mods are trigger happy of late b/c of the "MOO3 sux buy GalCiv it's betterer" spam. Might not be fair, but I can't say I blame them. Go back in a month, after the trolls are gone.

By and large, the owner of a forum has the right to indicate what the purpose of the forum is, and to restrict discussion on that forum to that purpose. I don't think the US constitution is applicable due to the international audience most web forums enjoy, and I think it would be viewed as arrogant presumption by non-US citizens as arrogant presumption for any of us in the US to try to force the use of the US constitution as a measurement.

I think Stardock has demonstrated a great deal of tolerance in view of the intended purpose of this forum (discussion of, and related to, Galactic Civilizations), but with the expected impending load of posts expected starting 3/26, I think it will become increasingly difficult for them to tolerate subjects outside the forum's intended purpose.

That said, I feel I know the Stardock people well enough to be certain that the response posters get will be professional and considerate.

Websites are privately owned. "Freedom of speech" only applies to the policies of the US government.

A business or other private entity can enforce whatever restrictions on speech they like.

For instance, we are going to ban the word "it" here on the forum. As long as no one says it, er I mean the word it (auugh! I said it again!)

One should realize, the Bill of Rights protects the people from the Government. Unless IG is a branch of the government, which it isn't, the First Amendment doesn't even come into to play. The Bill of Rights extends rights to the people that limit how the government can interfere in their lives. I hope this helps shed some light on the issue.
