Political Party Mods

1)Um, no. The other devs and I are going to have to modify the political party code to allow only reasonable modding. Political parties aren't quite the same as ships and techs, which the AI can make better use of even if they're modded.

2) Interest rates affect lease. Crime and Cabinet aren't currently used to my knowledge. I don't know if the government ability is being used either.

GOOD! I was going to suggest that while I WILL miss making a party that has PQ of 200% (LMAO) I'd rather see them capped. Please cap the party itself though. This way, I can then go and select the extra race options I want. Maybe cap em to the same starting levels as you have choices for the race options.

Why cap them? If you don't modify them then they won't affect your game... if somebody else wants to try playing at 200% PQ or -50% research why not let them???

Hold on... what's the point of the "PenaltyType" identifier. Is it required? It seems sort of redundant.

Sort of rough. As I noted there, I'm not sure how the AI players will react to the new parties, since I don't know how AI players are assigned parties in the first place. And while elections can accomidate new parties, the senate "map" does not appear to.

And I am sure there are other instances where parties come into play that I haven't thought about (or even encountered in my games).

A writer that automates the task I described would be very keen, Hawaii.

Oh crap... big bug. The scroll arrows beside the list of party names are just for show! They don't actually scroll when you click on them. So you can only see the default number of parties. The only way I can figure to see all of the NEW parties is to use the scrolling wheel on my mouse.

Cool, that would go a long way in assisting me when I do Political Parties.

I think it's a nice feature that the Bonus does not have to equal the Penalty. That allows for some flexibility in governmental types, where there's a backlash when you lose power.

For instance, "Fascists" might offer a 35% Production bonus (the State is everything, the Individual is subsumed). However, if you lose power there's a "freedom" backlash that gives you a 45% Production penalty (the people turn away from the values the Fascist State adhered to).

Interesting option, I think.

I wonder what "OpposingParty" does?

Nah, Verenti, NDP is a real party in Canada! They have 14 seats in parliament! They strive to protect the environment, and have some really keen policies on that.

Their economic policies aren't so great.

I live in Halifax, BTW. I think We're like the only NDP riding in Nova Scotia (although I have like the 98 election stuck in my head so I may be vastly wrong)

I like NDPs because their stance on subjects.. And I'm a leftist

Thrull, a 500% PQ party REALLY REALLY unbalances the game! While it may be fun to MESS with... it's just not right. I HOPE that the devs are able to modify the metaverse to pick up on this VERY QUICKLY!!!!

Psshhhh... if they didn't want the political parties modded, they wouldn't have commented all of the variables so well. Heck, they probably wouldn't have listed the variables at all.

I'm sure that the metaverse does not accept games that used modded parties.

You wanna bet clockwise! Take a look at my score... guess what... THAT game was a modded party!

See the first two words???? "Umm no"... GEEEEEEEE What does THAT TELL you???? MAYBE they don't want it listed?

It's not so much the fact that we'll have to ignore games submitted with modded parties. We just need to make sure the AI smart enough to pick the best Political Party out of the bunch (Right now I think they're only picking from out of the 6 main parties). This way, even if a player makes a completely lopsided Political Party, the AI will take note and utilize that Party to their advantage as well. By the next major patch we should have this code in

heheh Boogie.. that's EVIL... but I LIKE it.. I will say that I believe I noticed that the AI had noted the party was available and was using it cause I got a message once that said that the AI's controlling party "Cheat" (My name for it :D) had lost power.

hehe Then perhaps it's already working corrently We'll have to make sure it's foolproof though...lopsided PolParties is definatly one way to easilly boost your meta score.

I just figured that Cari misunderstood the question. Regardless, I don't really think it's wrong to pass along mod possibilities. Stardock is all about customization.

I guess they are going to have to fix the scoring system. Do they band games that include lopsided tech mods, or event mods? I've been trying to figure out what the variables for invasion tactics mean (they are not listed). What happens when I figure that out?

I suppose mods will make the metaverse sort of useless.

Technically, there is nothing wrong with posting the info because we did allow for them to be modified, rather than hard-coding them into the executable.

However, because Jeff asked how we would rather have it, I asked him not to post the info directly. Because there's a difference between figuring out how to mod something yourself and going on-line to get some cheats.

The metaverse does do some checking for unreasonable scores. We will be adding more checks when we've caught up on the bugs. We could always display a score and a modified score, although that might take more work than it's worth.

The invasion tactics the AI will be able to use automatically. The UP issues you can't be certain that you'll be able to win. Even if you make tons of techs and stuff to improve your influence, the AI can use those as well, and will probably use them better than you.
