Yup, mignuna...

as someone who lives in the country, I can relate. I was actually ecstatic when we moved here and found our mailbox was nonexistent; we had to put one in ourselves for home delivery.

But it's all worth it when I can go hack off a hunk of one of my mesquite trees for the firepit (we also will be harvesting the beans and trying them for their nutritional value, as they were a staple of the Paiute diet).

You have described perfectly why Dave and I want to move away from town when he's done being in the Air Force.

I'm going to substitue 'chickens' for 'lemon tree, tho.

the things you take for granted are amazing, aren't they ?. we don't have cable OR broadband internet. we get dodgy cell phone coverage (if at all). we have no kerbing or guttering and there's no supermarket for miles !. no buildings over 2 stories. no office blocks. i can't imagine why i thought i needed all that crap !. this place is beautiful. (and the beach is a 4 min walk away. you can hear the ocean at night because there's no traffic). ah, this is the place for me

gorgeous post mig... live it up!

thanks, teegs !. i'm glad you liked my life

dharma, go for it !. you will never regret it, and the kids will have room to run. and you would suit this life, i'm sure, just like i do. all simplicity and calm, all about having a home.

I'm going to substitue 'chickens' for 'lemon tree, tho.

i am trying for chickens !. phil doesn't like them much. our neighbour got a duck recently and he was telling me how it poops about 50 times and day and it drives him mad stepping in it, and phil was all adamant "no chickens". (hah. maybe not yet. but i want chickens, and chickens i shall have !)

a life just big enough for my liking

and i know you got exactly what i meant by that, too, dharma, it makes me smile.

we don't have cable or broadband, either...and 1/2 mile from the house begins an area where all but 2 cell carriers are in "roaming" so the service is spotty here at best. The nearest "store" here is a convenience store 2 miles away; it's a 7 mile drive to a "real" store (same 7 miles for me to work). We live on a beach...just a really, really big one known as the Mojave desert...lol. When I worked at the mine (in death valley), from the top of the hoist headframe you could see all the way down and across the northern end of the valley...as we often put it "this ain't the middle of nowhere, but you can catch a good view of it from the headframe"...and we're within driving distance of all that here.

Man, I love this place...

All of that sounds like a beautiful trade off.

You sound happy indeed, wanna adopt me? ( i look like Janis Joplin, yanno, and while i cant sing, i do play a mean bluegrass fiddle and im a damn good cook!)

LW...

You and your hubby ever consider moving to the desert?

the whole "get back to nature" jazz is good times. i fully endorse it. but i like to throw in modern things too. cable -- please! high speed internet -- i must! but not having to deal with people i dont want to deal with -- the most important.

its not that we (vanessa and i) dont want to leave our respective homes, its that we dont want to HAVE to. hehe im trying to get there, kiddo.

good times.

sarah, we only have 2 dogs as we don't have the space for much more at the moment, but i have big plans. starting with chickens !. and yes, the trips into town are worth it. the only thing that i really can't live without is chocolate

sounds just magical, gideon. we have no supermarkets either. and your beach sounds very impressive ! bigger than mine !. another one of those "little" differences struck me today when i read the "adopt-a-pet" column in this weeks' paper. normally they're stray dogs and cats, but ours this week is a pig ! lol.

All of that sounds like a beautiful trade off.

indeed, steve, it is.

duck poo is far nastier and wetter than chicken poo.You sound happy indeed, wanna adopt me? ( i look like Janis Joplin, yanno, and while i cant sing, i do play a mean bluegrass fiddle and im a damn good cook!)

sabrina, it's true, duck poo is green and slimy. yeuch. and i am happy. mostly, anyway. and i would love to adopt you !. we would write best selling novels and my friend michael (who loves the fiddle... he has a fine vintage banjo you' d love), can compose lyrics to your fiddle and create all manner of funky tunes !. hehe. and you love dogs, too !. plus, you know how i feel about janis ... she IS goddess !

You and your hubby ever consider moving to the desert?

ok, sabrina & her hubby can visit you gideon, but they have to visit me too !

You are living one of my dreams! But in the mean time, I've decorated my apartment with nature and have some lovely gardens. And there's a lighthouse drawn on one of my walls in chalk.
I'm very happy for you and can't wait to hear about when you get your chickens.

This is cute...especially with the PUSA quote, a band that is far underquoted in this JU's opinion.
