America's Independence

Does anyone appreciate it?...

Once again it is July 4th, America's independence. I know many people out there celebrate...but do they really care about what it means?...do they know what happened?...do they think about anything besides sales, fireworks, and parties?....I've noticed many holdays which have basically went to hell because of marketing and a basic apathetic feeling for any celebration because it might offend someone. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, etc. these holidays are supposed to be fun, heartfelt, or something like that...but more and more people seem to want to "cash in" on even some of the most serious of holidays...even Vets' Day. I write this to encourage the American people that while they may be shopping, having parties, and setting off fireworks(which is extremely satisfying) to remember that back in the 1700's people were fighting and dying for you to have these rights...there is not enough respect on July 4th....it should be more revered than any other holiday, for Americans....but as with any other it has turned into a "cash cow" for the bastard corporations....

Well I hope that helps round up some more serious feelings for this most important holiday, which allowed our country the freedom to form and offer the benefits of freedom to all individuals who live in its borders...

Happy 4th of July America,
~Zoo

First, good post.

Second, those aren't rights. They are privileges.

Third, people are still fighting dying so that the majority of us can shop, have parties, and set of fireworks. They deserve our thanks as well.

well i have to say this article is dead-on and honestly brilliant. It's like Christmas y'all- there are people who think they don't have the time to acknowlege God, yet they celebrate the birth of His Son? Christmas has been mutated into this gift-giving, competitive-shopping, sales event of the year! Christmas is not about the gifts. Its about the celebration of Christ's birth. Its a time to be with family and friends, love and God; people treat it as a event of marketing and greed!
bleh~ makes me wanna scream!
I just wish that maybe this Christmas, people will take time to be with God and truely celebrate the meaning of Christmas.

peace on earth, good will towards men!
