Metaverse Empires

Being a new player here, I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to join an empire right now.

I see a controversy over score aging; a sequel coming soon, most likely with a completely new Metaverse; and a bunch of players who have retired but are still locking up most of the top spots.

If I should join an empire, why? (and why yours? :) )

If not, why not?

Thanks in advance for any clarity you can bring to the table.

Don't have an answer for that one.

It is our was of being a team. Since you can't compete via GC online we do it via the meta. Part of the meta is the empires you see. I think it adds another welcomed element to the game. I played for a few months w/ out submitting to the meta or being in an empire. It is a lot more fun since I have been a Guardian. You are certianly welcome in any thread wether you join an empire or not.

Most of these Empires are going to be shifting to GCII when it hits the street. Get in now and beat the rush!

You're not good enough yet... at least for the Centurions.

100k MV points or 100 games or Veteran....

But you'll get there....

Some of the reasons you might want to join an empire ...

You like to participate in a bit of banter back and forth

You like the feeling of belonging to a team

Many teams have a theme ...

Most teams offer a friendly rivalry to the other teams.

Many teams compete for position in the metaverse and thats why they would like to have a new player join them.

Which should you join? It is Yor choice. ;)

Team spirit is certainly a good thing. I think I'll keep my eyes and my options open for the moment. :)

How big empires does shift into GCII?

As empires are free to create and join, I would guess that no empires will be transfered automatically, but most of the active players would recreate the empires in the new Metaverse as soon as it is constructed.
It will be interesting to see how many empires actually do get transfered, as little interest as there seems to be on this board. (Although, the release of the GalCivII beta will probably bring many retired players back to the community, just to see what's going on, if nothing else, thusly increasing the chances that all empires will be represented in the new Metaverse.)

Not all Empires have rules that can keep you from joining. The Foundation, Canadian Star Federation, and the Galactic Guardians are all top notch open Empires who welcome those at all levels of play.

I wasn't going to read the information available for every empire if only a few were still active. I posted a request for recruitment and got only four recruitment posts in response even though there are hundreds of empires.

Now that I have a good idea which empires still have representation on this board, I will go read up on those few empires, and decide which, if any, I would like to join.

I understand that. But if you are wondering about the meaning of an empire, especially a top one, don't hesitate to check the detail of the empire :)

And for the IBH recruitment pitch: well, since my empire is a bit asleep, I haven't anything specific to tell. But lot of empires are in the same state. And some empire have non obvious themes:
Galactic Guardians want the extinction of Yors
Foundation want to preserve Yor from the Galactic Guardians.
CSF (the Canadian) are undead. Be wary of Damoose when speaking about snack. You may end as one.

And feel free to check this forum http://www.diplomats-empire.com/new-embassy. IBH, Galactic Guardians and Foundation have private chambers in it.

Oops, Did not intentionally mean to leave you guys out Peace. A list of the empires that have players still submitting is here http://altmeta.galciv.org. There are a few Empires that have submissions that are not very active in this forum, Europen Alliance, Mid-West Confederation

Minor nitpick : it is only active players from top 25 empires
