Trade routes

I know when starting a new game I am allowed three trade routes, but when I am allowed more where does it say.

Many a time ive sent trade ships to planets only to find out im not allowed to set the route up, it says somthing like ive reached the maximum amount.

Please help. :notsure:

If you hit the F4 key, you can go to a "trade" tab that will list your current trade route, and the number currently allowed (max is 10). On this screen you can also delete an existing trade route to replace it with a new one (the greater the distance between the 2 ends of the trade routes, the greater the income).

The basic is 1 one trade route (to have more you need to take pol party or picks associated with trade route). Some techs (in yellow field) will grant you trade routes, like Trade, advanced trade. Just look at the trade route +1 bonus listed with the tech.

And what about the origin of route? Is it always on the planet which BUILT freighter?

If you trade something for a freighter w/ one of the AI I think its origin is the closest Terran planet in relation to where the ship was when you aquired it.

Dont mean to jump in here, but i have a question also. Since it is about trade routes ill post here so i dont have to make another post.

The amount of trade routes you can have, say 3 for example. Is that 3 per planet or 3 total per civ?
Say i have 8 planets, can i have 8*3= 24 routes, or just 3 all together?

Thanks

Yes im new also :)

the routes you are allowed are Civ-wide, NOT per planet. (One trick to raise your total number of routes is to use diplomacy to get the AI to war with one another, then they have to find other trading partners - {there is no limit to the number of trade routes you can recieve}). :)

You are limited to a maximum of 10 trade routes originated form you planets
