The choicest cut of meat

a sage
without
majik
in a village of
meat eaters
depends on
thoughts dressed
in mystery
tied to the beginning
and some solemn
great spirit

to be a priest or
sage
hopeful shaman
witch doctor
or poet
requires a steadfast
commitment to living
well while others
simply
live

with costume and
jewelry
advertisements
ticket scalpers
ushers at the
gate
sycophants
approach the great
one
dangling charms
potions
naked virgins
or groupies and
celibate reprobates
swinging incense
to cover the
smell

a celebration of color
sound and drama
the “greatest show
on earth” tattered
tarnished
lacking
but still a spectacle

no elephants or
dancing bears
at worst a campfire
and fireflies
but always 2 opening
acts
a song to close
and the choicest cut
of meat

I was hoping this was actually going to be about meat. I prefer N.Y. Sirloin Strip myself.

Hey, sorry seem to have found ur stuff a little late. I've read back thru a few of ur poems and I think you really are very talented. I especially liked "junkies prayer" . You hit the nail on the head..or the vein with the spike...

Thanks, keep writing!!
