Auto Survey won't

I am just starting my first game and playing around with the various options. I created a couple of scout ships and had them do an automated sector sweep, so I know that I at least have the basics of selecting an automated option for a ship. However, only once have I been able to get my survey ship to auto survey. I select the option but it just sits there. One time it did actually survey on its own, but only for a while and then it quit. Any suggestions?

Try sending the Survey ship to another part of the map and find more anomalies, then use auto survey again. it will stop auto survey if the ship cant find any anomalies in its detection range or all teh anomalies have been explored on the map.
