Differences between alien civs?

I know that each alien civilization is supposed to have its own AI engine behind it, but in the games that I've played, I haven't really noticed any differences. For example, what AI features do the Drengin have that the Altarians don't? Does each AI civ have its own preference for political party and starting abilities?

I've played a few crippling and maso games, and the only differences I've seen are in ship strength. But I think that is more effected by who claims the military resources, than the preferences or AI of each race.

So what's up? What makes each civ stand out?

The difference is the Drengin AI likes to throw it's muscle around and attack weaker civs and get's on very badly with civs that aren't evil. Altarians attack weak evil and nuetral civs without mercy but will not usually attack good civs however weak they are. Once a good random minor popped up and the altarians didn't attack it but they quickly did away with any nongood minors.

The main difference between all races is the mortality that have if AI is evil and you are good, they will not like you at all. If they happen to be more powerful then you, expect demands and later a war.

The characteristics are quite pronounced I think, but that is my own personal opinion. :)

Yeah, well all of that has to with their morality, not who they are. If you set the Yor to be pure good, then of course they make alliances with other good guys and don't like anyone who's evil. What I was wondering about is what makes (for example) the Arceans different than the Torians regardless of their morality.

In the first gameplay example in the encyclopedia, it says, "Each computer player has its own AI engine underneath it. . . When I say that each AI player has its own AI engine, I mean each major race literally has its own C++ code behind it." I was kind of disappointed that this isn't very obvious in the game.

I've played a few games since the first, and the only things I have noticed are that the Drengins are expecially effective at planetary invasions, and the Torians have a weird tendency to build corvettes, even when ships like dreadnoughts are availible. Anybody seen those things, or anything like it?

I'm not overly knowledgable, but I do know that the Drengin AI acts like the schoolyard bully -- pretty effective militarily early-on, but it loses strength over time as its infrastructure generally suffers due to said militarism...

Its definitly true that they have different AI's for each civilization.
Everyone seems to have noticed the dregnin's behavior. Thats one example. Another is that the Torians never really build transports effectively and conquer many planets, even if they are a superpower. All of the AIs have different things like this.

Yeah! For instance, the Yor are extremely annoying at all times! Who doesn't notice that after their first hour or two of playing? ;)

That's why the Guardian empire focuses on destroying the Yor for toasters and spare parts. :D LOL :D
