Reagan was an evil doer

Reasons to prefer Dubya to the Ray-Gun Man.

These last few days, people seem to be falling over each other to say how much greater a man the Ray-Gun was as compared to the current occupant of the Oval Office. Even people that tend to make a lot of sense are making no sense whatsoever on this one. A good and typical example is as follows:

The other day, the political editor of CNN (whose name escapes me) was talking about how the Ray-Gun differed from Dubya. After some general rambling remarks, he came to his conclusion. Ray-Gun, he said, had charisma and a winning personality and Dubya has niether quality. Well first off, will someone tell me how it ever came to be that an ancient old dried up apple face
like the Ray-Gun should be decreed as possessing charisma. I am bewildered. There are half used tubes of toothpaste in my bathroom with more charisma than RR and I've known parakeets with better personalities. People must have been hard up for charisma in the eighties.

Today is the funeral. The last of the fawning obituaries are being trotted out in ever more gargantuan gushes. The revisionists and aplogists are already running amok over history and the Ray-Gun isn't even in the ground yet.

Question: When does eulogising cross over into necrophlia? Draw the line before its too late!

What do they mean when they say "Day of Mourning". Mourners? None of them knew the man personally for fuck's sake. Why is all the weeping and wialing and homage-paying in order. Some commentator earlier talked about outpourings of grief from the American people. Grief my arse. This is turning into Diana-funeral. They're even clapping the casket. Its disturbing and cringe-worthy but then again so was Ray-Gun. He had the eyes of a dead fish. The smile never quite reached them.

Bottom line is this - I hereby formerly own to the fact that Ronnie Ray-Gun made my skin crawl. Anyone recognise that reaction???
Post if he gave you the creeps but please no postings about not speaking ill of the dead. Bogus. There is no better time to slag people off than when they're dead, They'll never know about it.
Dubya, meanwhile, seems to mean well, Were he ever to lose the deranged hooligan neocons
Appropos of Nothing
I wish people would stop with these England fans. The novelty is wearing off and anyway, the more people get into a frenzy, the more nasty it'll get if , once again, there is a disappointing outcome.

Speak ill of the dead all you like but your article is a series of denigrations backed up by absolutely nothing! You say RR had no charisma yet he was both a movie star and President. I won't bother with anything more other than to say congrats on landing yourself on the list of folks whose blogs are so terribly written and even less well researched or argued that I won't bother patronizing it with more comments or even casual reading. Bye:)

I'm sorry but it has to be said, you're not half the writer I am By the way, would it be okay to speak ill of Hitler, given that he's dead

Reagan was a great president. He ended the cold war, and few others.

But he wasn't perfect president. He negotiated with terrorists. He caused a major depression.

But most presidents has some problems anyway.

Bush jr? Iraq. Clinton? Intern.

No, the Soviet war in Afghanistan did for their economy. Maybe the ray-gun's policies just made things a bit quicker.
Foreign Policy aside, RR was really quite a heartless bastard. There wasn't one research project into medical advances that he didn/t shred, Alzeimers included amongst them. Worse, he threw huge numbers of mental health patients out on to the street to fend for themselves. Care in the community, he called it.

NB Why didn't he love his children .... and don't say he did. He didn't.

That was already proved incorrect in the other thread that you were spewing venom in.

And, it's Alzheimer's, not Alzeimers.

What medical advance did he shred?  Can you give proof?

Reagan was an evil man, but he was no Hitler 2000 aka Bill Clinton, who condoned genocide, allowed terrible diseases to kill millions, etc. In fact, because of his neglect, over 13 million people died during his reign.

1- that didn't prove anything

2- it's not "OK" to be venomous no matter what.

3- so much anger, why?  you've hardly been here, yet you lash out at people without bothering to know who they are.  what's the purpose in that?
