GCII TA - A Dummies Guide - Site Update

GCII TA - A Dummies Guide - Site Update

Your help still required

https://www.galciv2guide.com

HI all :)

I am putting together a new basic dummies guide to TA. As I am taking screen shots and making notes from the launch screen onwards; I started considering that it would be good to get ideas from the good people on these here forums on what they would like to see included in the dummies guide.

Therefore, is there anything you feel should be included? Is there anything you are not sure about yourself and want a suitable answer to? Your comments and suggestions on this would be gratefully received.

Oh, and yes I am aware this has been tried before but not by me, and I do have some experience on website building as a fair number of you may know

Therefore, your thoughts please!

True! And, i surely will try to work more often at this since i'm hovering between Modding X-Worlds stuff and coding the essential "routines" for the above.

Besides, just looking at what Drengin is providing us with the 'Dummies Guide for TA' nifty site should give me plenty of incentive. One thing i certainly will need is a thorough set of Race-Tree(s) references (but, wait... i will actually get those for myself - in March or April only though) if i ever get to properly design a fair enough utility in GTeChnos for you all.

I've got the basic framework done, it's only a matter of fixing the xml parser and the localized sort of database, tracking down routines and functions... plus some compiler jobs/procedures within VBX05.
Should be fun.

No update today as i ran into a problem with the text overlays for all the options sections. Looking to redo them over the next few days as all overlays need redoing. New version will split the options pages and make the loading time smaller and have the text for the options beside it as against the current mouseover (this was not displaying all the text in certain browsers). The other option was to hyperlink every option and have it open a new window with the text on it. This would have been a major upgrade to the site as it would have created hundreds of new pages. For loading time reduction i went for the split graphic way instead.

Once again my apologies for the lack of an update. I will start emailing the update through to those who have joined the mailing list one day prior to posting it here as a way of thanksing those who have shown an interest in the site :HOT:

OK Sorry for the delay in the update folks :)

I have now updated the 'GCII Update' section to include XML force update. The first of the overlays for the Game Options sections is now complete and has also been uploaded.

More to come tomorrow!

OK, thanks to some moving around by Cari and crew i will have to do the options screen again pretty much from scratch  This will obviously mean a delay in the new updates for a few days or so.
What i might do is do some of the rest of the details until we are sure no futher updates are forthcoming.

After many teething problems i have decided to go back to the drawing board with the dummies guide and have changed the entire site. Hopefully it should now come along a bit faster than before.

Sorry for the delay folks!

Looks like a neat blog structure, efficient!

What bugs me most about this effort on your part is that SD will possibly release the real TA pdf guide soon or even, somehow later. We simply DO NOT know when and what it's going to provide us with.

I think, then, that your site should focus on 'strategic elements', rare tricks, precious details not found elsewhere, etc.

There's no obstacle for it to be a complete run-down over the interface (settings) like the previous site did, though.
Besides, i believe there's not that many people who really understand what "Use Vertex processing mode" really does exactly and what else more complex stuff is unexplained by SD straight into the game interface!!

Hit CTRL-PrintScreen to take a snapshot... have you seen that fact mentioned anywhere or in any help guide?

The I_Mod wiki is also a good source of technical infos. The genuine official GC2 wiki isn't really updated with all ther is to say about Twilight that it's simply upsetting to anyone visiting there.

As for Modders, i guess we're all left to ourselves & guessing mindwork along with the obsolete DL guide written up by carielf a couple of years ago.

Serious... there is a need somewhere. The trick is to find exactly what IT is.

I know for sure that the new map editor needs the full run-over (for features and user-friendliness -- Why can't i change the intrusive Nebula black background drop, as example or even spreadsheet my way through a huge list of items to edit for an immense map!) and i really_very_surely would want to edit a DA tech-tree with the TA editor.

I bought these anyway.
;)
