Window Frame Problem

Feeling Rejected...

I submitted my first Windowblind. It got rejected! The reason was because the window frames 'were showing magic pink'. I sent a note to the moderator but have not heard back yet (I think he might be busy). Heres my issue.

When I import the pieces as .tga this is what I get....

Notice that there is black on all the parts, including the skin itself.

When I import them as .bmp this is what I get.....

Notice that the magic pink is showing up in the preview window but not on the skin.

Here is my info:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.02 (build 44 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine does not support per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

This is because :

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha. WindowBlinds requires this for per pixel alphablended borders as without it performance would be poor. Please see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware. Recent ATI & NVIDIA boards should support this feature. Onboard graphics tend not to.

It appears you have enabled limited per pixel mode, so WindowBlinds will support per pixel, but with no hardware support.

I didn't get any magic pink when I tested it, Xiandi

I did notice the pink in the preview and thought it was a bit odd but figured as long as it didn't show on the skin in use, it wasn't a big deal.

The odd thing is that SKS6 is supposed to make magic pink transparent without you telling it to (there's not a place to check transparency even if you wanted).

It doesn't appear to be working ... at least in the preview ... or apparently for the mod that checked your skin.

Hi Pic,

I did'nt think that the pink in the preview mattered either. That's why I was so shocked when it was rejected. Maybe he got the pink on the skin....maybe he saw it in the preview window and assumed it was on the skin too? I dunno. I'm awaiting his reply.

I looked at another skin that used a .bmp for the top bar with magic pink in it. The pink is not showing on the preview of that one. I'm wondering if the fact that my computer will not support per pixel has anything to do with it. I dont have enough experience with it to know.

It looks like it is happening because you don't have any per-pixel frames defined.

I imported some generic pngs to the frame top and the magic pink in the preview went away. Strange ...

It looks like you'll need to add per-pixel window frames. You can use your images without the magic pink and save them as pngs. SKS6 will convert them to tga

I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Thanks yet again for your help. (guess I should have asked you first before I posted:D)

I'm curious if that skin had per-pixel frames defined or not.

Sorry I didn't catch it when I was checking it ... let me know if the mod saw the pink in the skin or just the preview.

It was "Gadget" by navigatsio. And they're NOT skinned.

I'm baffled. As soon as I put a .tga in the per pixel area, the pink was gone!! I'm going to have to rework the frames for the per pixel area, they're set up differently. I have some more work to do before I can try resubmitting it.

Xiandi, I am not an expert, but I had similar issues. Not with the magic pink but preview not showing the title bar in the list etc. What I learned is that once you touch the per pixel window border section you must complete it. If not, all sorts of crazy things will start showing up. There may be some setting that gets turned on as soon as you do something inside that section that makes things go whacky without the complete set.

OK, I'll do that. Thanks. :D

Check to see if the images are 24 bit bmp...importing 32 bit tga(or png)into the bmp frames messes with the pink.

You dont need the perpix if you dont want them...delete the images from SKS and reimport the 24 bit bitmaps from a new location...like a folder on your desktop.

Delete all perpix sections too.(frames, buttons)

Kitty used to have the same problem...when I checked her skin, she had 32 bit tga's where there should have been 24 bit bmp.
Opening the image in PS and saving as 24 bit bmp to the desktop, then reimporting fixed it...even in the preview.

Thank you, IR! That was the ticket. It's all fixed now. I will resubmit it later tonight. :D
