Installation Issue

SDC thinks SOSE is not installed ... but it is!

Purchased SOSE a few hours ago, downloaded the game via SDC and installed it successfully. Game plays fine, version number is listed as 1.01 in the bottom right corner of the screen, shortcuts are present in start bar and install files are in theC:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire folder.

Trouble is when I did an update check on the game, it tells me that the game isn't installed and prompts me to install the game again! I don't want to download another 900 odd MB of data and I would like to be able to archive the game to save me downloading it again in future (this option isn't available as SDC insists the game is not installed.)

It is correctly registered using the registration options.

Can someone kindly tell me how I can convince SDC that the game is installed so I can backup my investment?

Thanks for your time.

How exactly did you check for updates? Does the main Games screen in SDC show a blank in the "Installed Version" column for sins?

I used the menu option (right click SOSE line and chose "Check for Application Updates"

The screenshot below shows what the current state of affairs is:

Although SDC says the game is not installed, it most definitely is (you can just make out the line of "-----" that shows that SDC THINKS this game is not installed.)

From the highlighted menu option you can also see that archiving is not an option until the game is downloaded again.

I'm going to try uninstalling SDC and doing a fresh install for now; will advise if it resolves the issue.

Update: Uninstalling SDC and reinstalling did not fix the issue; it still reports SOSE as being not installed.

Sounds like the registry entries got lost somehow. If you're familiar with regedit (Go to run in the start menu, and type regedit there), they should be present at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins.

Thanks for that. I actually got that path mentioned when I tried to apply the manual install update file instead. As you suspected, the reg key was completely missing. I've managed to source the correct key and values from a compadré and all is now well!!

Thanks for your help!
