Peyton Manning... a study in efficiency and poise
After the Colts moved from Baltimore, Maryland, I didn't think I'd ever be able to cheer for them again but time heals many wounds and in the last few years I've come to at least respect the modern era Colts and especially their All Pro quarterback Peyton Manning.
Sitting here and watching the playoffs, Manning is, as noted in the headline, a study in efficiency and poise. He is as steady as they come, and is incredibly quick at surveying the field and finding a receiver to get the ball to. Where other QBs might struggle and take their time finding the open man, Peyton Manning is cool and methodical. Check intended target, if not open, move on to the next quickly.
I wish I could have seen and remembered more of the greats along the way, at least from my lifetime. I do remember Joe Montana, and well before him Johnny U. I remember others too, including Staubach and others. Marino for sure, along with John Elway.
All I can say for now is that I think Manning is setting a standard that will be hard for others (outside of perhaps Tom Brady) to follow.
