Missing Serial Number Sticker

Hey guys. I am new to this community, played a lot of MOO2 and even MOO3. I finally decided to go to Galactic Civilizations. So I purchased brand new the PC DVD GalCiv 2 GOTY edition from Amazon.com, not a 3rd party seller, and installed it. Neither the sleeve, nor the case with the two discs(one being the soundtrack) in it has a sticker with the serial number. It wasn't on the manual, the poster or the hotkey card. Nor on the advertisement insert. I can't help thinking I'm missing something. I submitted a ticket and am willing to attach pics of my case and sleeve, etc. to prove there is no sticker. Any ideas or suggestions? I really wanted to play this game, but if I cant update it, I might as well return it. Please, any ideas or solutions would be helpful and appreciated.

That's a bit odd. Are you sure you didn't get it from the "N used & new" section there? Because we've not yet released any such Game of the Year-branded box that I'm aware of, and all of the North America retail releases of GC2 have been on CDs, not DVD. The European Limited Edition of Dread Lords may have been on a DVD, but I don't believe it had a soundtrack CD with it.

If you've already contacted support though, they'll be able to help you sort things out if it's a genuine copy.

Thank you for your quick reply. Well in any case, its not the limited edition. It clearly states Game of the Year Edition, as well as PC DVD. For your convenience I snapped some shots just now:

The first is the "sleeve" or box, that holds the case, it also folds out:

As you can see is clearly states PC DVD in the upper left hand corner.

Second is the front of the case that holds the discs, manual, poster and hotkey card:

Its obviously not some jewel case bootleg.

And the back of that case, just to show there is no sticker:

And here is the manual, which even states game of the year on it:

And yes, I very much am sure that is was new and not used. Also it was bought from amazon and not amazon marketplace from a 3rd party. I got this with an amazon gift card and in fact, it actually shipped from amazon's warehouse, I tracked it, uses amazon's return policy etc. It even still has the security tape and plastic wrap that is such a pain in the ass to get off. I can only guess it was a packaging mistake or something, and I got unlucky. In the end, I did pay for this and its a valid copy, and I just really want to be able to enjoy my purchase.

EDIT: Oh yeah just one more thing, as you see there isn't even any residue or mark from where the serial sticker would be. I checked. Its like it just never had one.

Hmm, I could've sworn those weren't supposed to be out yet (Amazon should update their page if they've got the new SKU). But yeah, certainly looks like the real thing. Support should be able to sort things out for you. Go ahead and post your ticket number and I'll have them pull it up first thing in the morning.

Thank you so much for your help. Much better than like 90% of other companies support. This is the ticket number directly from the e-mail: WDG-616834. I really do appreciate your help in this matter.

These started getting shipped last August to replace the existing GalCiv II: Dread Lords SKU at retail. Odds are that the copy was at the end of a run and just missed a serial, but I'll check into it.
