DesktopX and Vista

*noobie alert*

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if the desktop widgets are compatibile with Vista - any gadget that i install that you need to type in (dictionary, to-do list, search, etc) doesn't work on my machine.  The gadget installs but won't let me type in it.  It happens on both my Vista machines but works fine on my XP laptop.  All other widgets work fine.  So i was wondering if it's a common problem and if there is a solution?

All of the default Silica data entering widgets that come with the DesktopX installation work for me on Vista Ultimate x64.

Are the widgets/gadgets you're trying specific ones only? Can you link them in the WC gallery?

Try clearing the specific widgets cache. Type this into the Vista Start menu search bar... %localappdata%\Stardock\DesktopX\WidgetCache

Once that window opens delete the specific widget that is being affected and then trying running it again.

Is UAC enabled?

Hi there, thanks for the reply

I tried doing what you suggested but it didn't change anything, i have UAC disabled. The widgets i've tried are the ones that came with DesktopX (Silica To Do List, Silica Search, Silica Dictionary Search, etc) and every other widget i've tried from the gallery that has any kind of input box doesn't work. When i click the input box there is no curser and if i try to type i get the 'ping' error sound. As i said it's happening on both my Vista pc's (they are identical though) but not my XP laptop. Weird!

Widgets without an input box work fine though - Could it be possible that my firewall or AntiVirus or some other windows security thing are blocking them somehow?

Yes antivirus can create problems if it has some kind of script blocking, although it would probably prevent the widget from running at all. However, just disable AV and try if you haven't already.

If its still a no go then make sure you're running the most current version of DesktopX. Should be the release candidate... 3.49f[rc].017...if you're running version 3.20.044 then check "show pre-release versions" in the lower left hand corner of SDC and accept the prompt.

If none of that works, I'd suggest creating a support ticket with stardock. [email protected]. Reference this thread when sending the email.

Note: if you send it this weekend it won't be looked at until next week. Just FYI.

You can only get the beta if your have an OD subscription. I had the same problems, and I am on Vista 32. Just wait until DX 3.5 comes out.
