Proverbs 15

Well, it's past 9:30 and I'm still alive. Indeed, miracles can happen.

But anyway, on to the Bible study....

v. 2 -- This is a good verse to deal with the ever-amazing ways evolutionists use legitimate facts to come up with the most absurd conclusions. For example.... We all know that water erodes rock, so let's use that fact to pull the wool over people's eyes with respect to the Grand Canyon. Just tell 'em that the puny little Colorado River carved out the whole immense thing. (Gosh, the river must have been a lot wider back when it was carving out the top of the canyon.) Anyone can spout off facts, but it takes a wise person to use them correctly.

v. 5 -- Pride is a common human failing. We think we know everything, and we don't like to be told that we're wrong. But think about it. Out of all the billions of people on this planet, what are the chances that you are the sole human who knows everything? Pretty low, I would say. So we need to be humble and take to heart what other people have to say when they correct us. If we do that, we will undoubtedly find that there are some areas in which our wisdom is weak, and if we accept that fact and take to heart other people's wisdom, it will make our lives easier because we won't have to live with the consequences of the stupid mistakes we would have made.

v. 19 -- Being lazy will ultimately get you nowhere. It's kind of ironic. People are lazy because they want to have a life of ease and not have to do work. Well, the simple fact of the matter is that everyone is gonna have to do work at some point. A life of ease does not come free. In this passage, God compares the life of a lazy man ("a hedge of thorns") to the life of a diligent man ("a highway"). Personally, I would much rather walk down a clean smooth highway than through thorn bushes. So the moral of the story is.... Work now, and it will pay off later. Be lazy now, and you'll have no choice but to work later.

v. 21 -- This verse is so indicative of modern society. People just don't believe that there's a God who knows best, so they don't do what He says in the Bible.... and they end up ruining their lives. It always amazes me to see this promiscuous playboys who think that they've got such a fun and exciting and wonderful life. Then, when they get AIDS, they say, "Oh yeah, that was a pretty stupid thing to do." Well, for cryin' out loud, if you'd follow God's instructions, you would have found out that it was a stupid thing to do before it was too late to fix the problem.

v. 25 -- Being proud is pretty pointless when you factor God into the equation. It's kind of like two Lego men. Suppose one of them is gloating about how great he is to the other one. Well, his gloating isn't gonna matter much when the little kid comes back to play with his Legos and chucks the proud guy across the room. So don't be proud. God is a lot more powerful than you are, and God isn't terribly fond of proud people. He's liable to make you humble real fast if you're not willing to humble yourself.
