Given the opportunity, what would you change

Well we are down to the twelve days to Christmas, no please, don't start humming the song!

We are all thinking about the last gifts we need to get, and making sure we didn't forget anyone when we sent out our greeting cards. This is also the time we start refecting on the past twelve months and longer, hoping that we did all we could to make life just a little better for the ones we hold closest to our heart.

During the year we all have, I'm sure, found things happening in our life and others lives that just wanted to make us stand up and shout, "Could this all please just stop". It is discouraging at times when those with the means, position and power just don't step up and do something. Can't they hear us.

So if you were such a person of means, position, or power, just what would you change, stop, or cause to happen that would make people stop what they were doing, look up, listen and pay attention.

For me, the list as they say goes into next week. If I had to pick one thing it would be to remind everyone everywhere, that one of the most important things if not the only thing we have to do everyday of our life is protect and keep our children safe. As a world, we just are not doing a very good job of it. If we would just work on that, just think of the possibilities.

So here's your chance folks, say just as little or as much as you feel necessary but, and this will be hard, just one thing. There is alot of things going on in the world that need our help and attention, take a stand, let your voice be heard.

Have a Happy Holidays everyone.  ;)

I'd make it manditory for everyone to remember it can all be taken away in the shortness of a breath and to make every second count for something.

I would use this opportunity to point out that "they" don't exist. Means, position and power are not required to make a difference. Action is required. If you know of something needing doing then do it or enable someone else who has the same goal(s) Don't spend your time waiting for someone else to take the initiative.

You are correct Lantec, I only used those words because most most people out there are waiting for those they see with those qualities as being the ones that can/should be making things better or atleast attempting to make a change for the better.

I am reminded of how fragile those lives around us have become as we get older. As wulfn1 pointed out, "it can all be taken away in the shortness of a breath..." I make it a point to say to those whom I care about, "I love you." These are three very simple little words that are the sum of my being here. With the all the diversity that surrounds us, I feel I already have the power to change lives and the course of humanity because of the infectious nature of that simple phrase. Think of the choices we would make if we were to realize the impact this had on others. The significance of another life would never be diminished and the importance of all lives would contribute to the further evolution of this species.

We accede to the paramount ideal that all children have the fundamental right to be here, but we must take the responsibility to care for and teach them the quintessential importance of passing this legacy providing we have learned the consequences of having never learned how to say I love you. Someone taught us this about 2,000 years ago and we still haven’t caught on. Tell someone you love them and change the value of another life. It should be without negotiation.

Not really getting the kind of replies that I thought this post would generate.  (:(

It would appear from the replies that the human race, mankind if you wish, has lost the desire to believe that there is a still a chance to pull back from the abyss that we stand in front of.

Once again this was not about a wish, it was meant to bring out what you felt you could or would do if the opportunity presented it self.

Well, maybe Star Trek did get it right, "Beam me up Scottie, there's not intelligent life on this planet".

Now that should be worth a few remarks!  ;)  ;p  :d  :NOTSURE:

I didn't say that, I'm a believer in change for the better good, to go forward positively, still have faith in the human spirit and human kindness.. but we have to face it, there are some massive challenges ahead of us and until something is done about folks are going to be pessimistic.

Perhaps forced readings of "The Ethics of Star Trek" by Judith Barad, Ph.D? Would that qualify?

Someone got a Fud for StarTrek?

Good grief....;)

I'm kind of feeling like Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang are huddled in a corner asking "What's wrong with Charlie Brown?".  :NOTSURE:

Gene Roddenberry believed that we would evolve beyond our nature, and I'd like to believe it will happen. The "abyss" you refer to is a big wake up call for the reasonably intelligent people of the word.

Time to notice what's going on and realize that it is ok (and should be required of us) to speak up when something isn't right!

Sorry about the political undertone here, I do believe that mankind will find a better way of doing things eventually.

I would make Windowblinds free.

Actually though i would delete the part of the human brain that causes us to rush to judgment, then let the world sort out itself.

I agree with vS, political correctness has gone too far. For my part: I've stopped being politicaly correct and call things as I see them. I've gotten some flack over it but not as much as I anticipated. I think the general population is pretty much OVER all the PC BS.

I'd like to change the day that the first gun was invented/created... it just would not have been.

I'd like to change the day that the first politician lied and got away with it... not a good precedent for current politicians/world leaders...

...but first and foremost, I'd change the day lil Johnny entered politics... he'd have become a sewage worker/technician. Oh, that's right... he was in sewage/ a conveyor/purveyor. ;)

I wonder why that is? Guess our State has a lot of the area covered by mountains. Mind you, I've been doing my bit and just bought the gap in those figures closer with our new baby boy

In addition....

Outlaw attorney's holding any position in government.

Outlaw more than one family member ever running for president.

Outlaw religion having anything whatsoever to do with government.

When you create a law....you must also remove one.

If Politicians think minimum wage is livable they should be required to live on it. If they don't think it is livable they should raise it.

Universal health care for everyone.

Illegal aliens are immediately deported...no if, ands, or buts, and if your caught giving a job or housing to an illegal alien everything you own is confiscated, sold, and put towards the universal health care fund...and your deported with the illegal alien.
