First impressions

First impressions:

--FAST load times.

--I really like the UI, you've done a great job on it. That being said I, of course, have some ideas to improve it

--I wondered which ships had which squadrons of strike craft. I pointed at the squadron management and sure enough it showed a breakdown for me.

--Solid core game play.

--Good graphics overall.

Things to add:
--Reinforce fleet command. This would bring up a list of the closet x shipyards (with a number showing current jump distance of each) and allow you to select a shipyard and create ships that would be added to the fleet without changing the shipyards current way point, so any ships queued before or after in the normal way would go to the shipyards actual way point instead of the fleet.

--Orders for ships added to fleet. New ships joining a fleet should optionally have the same orders as the other ships of its type(set somewhere either in the fleet or UI options). Better yet make a fleet interface to set orders on a ship type basis or even designate sub-fleets to give out orders to.

--Towing: Allow construction frigates to tow built structures(turrets, hangers, shipyards, etc. probably not asteroids though) to a new location in system.

--Anti-strike craft turret for planet defense. Either a separate turret or as an add-on to existing structure(s). Right now a bomber group can just sit back and blow up turrets, which is cool if your the one with the bombers . OTOH this would make fighter craft from hangers less useful, but they would still be good for support anyway or if you didn't have the tech. Should probably come from the flak frigate tech, or as a further upgrade requiring it.

--Better description of capital ship abilities. For instance the ability to let strike craft phase out. Is this a % on them being attack? Always works with a recharge? How close do they have to be? What do upgrades to this ability do(which is a general issue, abilities do not show what an upgrade will give you).

--Planet management interface. I want to people able to see all planets structure(s) at once on a big sortable list. Which ones need exploring? Which have logistical space to fill? Maybe I missed it but the only way to do that right now is look at each planet one by one.

--Smart filter for summary windows. If a planet cannot produce a resource don't show it on the summary(i.e. show 0 mineral resources for a planet with 3 crystal roids.)

--Option for single-click focus. The way I use the interface if I click on something I want the zoom focus on it, a toggle for this behavior would be nice. Unless its already there and I missed it.

Additional defensive buildings have been previously suggested, but shot down. We shouldn't expect any new defensive buildings for release. For now, hangars with fighter squadrons are your best bet as stationary anti-bomber defenses.

This has also been talked about pretty extensively, and as far as I know it's on the way in the future

There is a zoom to cursor option, toggled by clicking the video camera button to the left of the diplomacy/research buttons. At least I think it's the video camera button You can also just toggle it in the game options, I believe. I've been playing with it on for a long time and haven't paid attention

There are multiple ways to focus.

1. Click the middle mouse button on the object you have selected.
2. Ctrl band box (handy for focussing in a general area or catching fast moving ships).
3. Double click the empire tree icon, center portrait, 2d icon or 3d mesh of the object.

You may find it handy to toggle the camera mode to attached mode. Once you focus on something it won't leave it and will always zoomin on that object. I find this much more convenient when watching battles particularly if I want to follow a fighter around.

You can do this by putting the planet with the shipyard into a group. My home planet is always group 5, so I press 5 and order some new ships while still watching the action. Any new shipyards I build make a higher number, so usually I end up with 5, 6, 7 and 8 being producing planets on various places in the galaxy.

Oh its coming , I've even seen the interface, you can also if you go and check out the texture files, its in there! Just not implemented in our beta version!
