Stardock announces DeskScapes 2.0

Animated wallpaper for all versions of Windows Vista

Stardock announced DeskScapes 2.0 today.  DeskScapes is a program that allows users of Windows Vista to have animated wallpaper on their desktop.

DeskScapes 1.0 was released earlier this year exclusively for Windows Vista Ultimate users.  It supports playing video content as animated wallpaper, dynamic content as animated wallpaper, and more.

DeskScapes 2.0 will run on all versions of Windows Vista that can run Aero (Windows Home Premium, Ultimate, Business).  What makes DeskScapes special is that it can run animated wallpaper and use virtually no CPU and very little memory.

DeskScapes also supports the .DREAM format for animated wallpapers which allow for user configuration of individual animated wallpapers, triggers, author info, and more.  You can see a gallery of .DREAM files here.

DeskScapes 2.0 will be released in February 2008 to the general public. A freely downloable version will be available as well as an enhanced registered version for $19.95 which will also come with Object Desktop. A beta version will be available to Object Desktop users shortly.

Now -there- is an incentive on upgrading to Vista -- DeskScapes 2.0! I am still running on XP due to a couple of games. Having DeskScape running on other versions of Vista is good news for me.

As an Ultimate user, I really think this is a good thing. More people using Deskscapes leads to more development of great content. I bought ultimate because it didn't cost a lost more (student), it has media center, and it has a really nice differential image-based backup program built in, among other useful features like domain networking for the office...

WOW. Just WOW.. I am speechless that Stardock would do this.. AGAIN! It's just like Object Dock. Originally released as free (w/ only the free version available). Consistently advertised mentioning how it was free then WHAMO! After it has a user base who have contributed skins and great ideas for the next versions bam comes about the enhanced version which COSTS money! And of course all the cool neew features are only available enhanced version... Sheesh... I will say this however, Stardock will skip the wrath of most users as Deskscape enhanced will be included for free in Object Desktop. Unlike Object Dock which was most people's complaint... So maybe they did learn something... Now only if they would include Object Dock enhanced in OD most things would be better...

...and nobody expected this? I knew it was coming the day they they first released it. It was just a matter of time. Throw throw freebie out for a while(get 'em hooked) Then enhance it and charge for it. Thats what stardock is all about, like a drug dealer. lol We even lost the masterbaron to this corporate monster.
c'mon people get used to it... BOHICA!

Wow....what a bunch of cry-babies! Why be down on SD for doing what's best for the company? So you went and pain all that money for Ultimate, and now Premium users get ONE of the countless benefits that Ultimate users have access to.... what's the big deal? Suck it up!

What, SD is supposed to constantly supply people with free software? It's a buisness, not a charity foundation! They have to make money to keep in buisness people. ObjectDock is still free. But if they want to make an enhanced version and charge for it, that's their right. Personally, I bought it. Well worth the $20 (or $14 and some change if you're an ODNT subscriber).....

For what it's worth . . those Ultimate users have not lost anything . . they got what they paid for (and Microsoft took their money; not Stardock).  It jsut so happens that soon the non-ultimate users will catch up.  All the Ultimates have really lost is bragging rights.  :)

Can we get a hint of what the extras are going to be in the enhanced version?
Has a date been set on when the beta of this will be released?

I can't believe I haven't seen anything posted about this, but what I would really like to see in an upcoming version of DeskScapes is....

* Multiple Monitor Support! *

I run two or more monitors in at work and at home and I don't like that I have to have the same Dream on both monitors. I would like to see the ability to make long aspect ratio Dreams that extend on both monitors or the ability to put a separate Dream on each screen.

I am am excite to hear that :D

YAY :D

PLEASE add Multiple Video Card support. Currently if you have more than one Video Card, non-SLI you can't use DreamScenes

I would also like to second goyney's request for Multiple Monitor Support, to allow multiple Dream Scenes on seperate monitors.

You all know that dreamscene is out there as a download, right? Anyone that wants dreamscene can have it.

But that only works with Vista Ultimate and only plays video.  DeskScapes 2.0 will work with Business and Home Premium and can show dynamic content.

Such whining! I got Ultimate because I wanted the entire package, and the Dreams were there. I'm glad other Vista users are finally going to get it, too! And I can't wait for DeskScapes 2, so I can see how cool it is. All in all, I can't find anything to gripe about; I just wish the XP users could have DeskScapes, too. And please, DO stop putting down Stardock - I've been with them since the days of WindowBlinds v 1.0, and they just keep getting better and better. The artists at WinCustomize are just fantastic, and customer support from both sites is 5-Star. Go snivel somewhere else.

So how do I get 2.0 for Vista Ultimate? The download page keeps saying it's only version 1.2. It says I can't play the WaterDream without 2.0 :(
