Any basic information on how the political parties affect your life, other than their starting bonuses. For instance, since you need Senate approval for war, how can I make sure war party people instead of pacifists get elected (I am federalist btw), and/or does it make a diff?

Huh? Needing the Senate to approve war? That's RL. You don't need to control the Senate for war (as far as I know). You just need to make sure that your party is the majority or you will be penalized (even more if the opposing party is in control).

You don't need to control the Senate to go to war, but if you're not in control, chances are they're not going to approve a war unless the AI you're attacking is pitifully weak or hates your guts anyway. ;)
It's a pain in the behind trying to teach those pesky Altarians a lesson when your senate thinks they're lovely chaps. :)

I don't get it. I attached someone, and my Senate met for an emergency session to vote on the war. It so happened the Senate was split between the War Party and the Federalists almost 50/50 (I am a Federalist) but even so, 30 people votes against it.

So, can the Senate veto your war? And, does anyone have any idea what controls which parties gain support?

I have a feeling it has alot to do with influence from such things as the social projects you choose to build, your military strength and your population. I.E. My population is #1 in my current game and the populist party increased from 0% to 46% in 2 election years. Just a guess.

My moral was also at a 46% average for all colonies. This would make me think the populist parties 30% boost to moral plays a large factor as well as thier belief in being fruitful.

I think you might be right, b/c I increased military spending to 100% after I got threatened by 2 empires and the Senate split between my party and the war part and no one else...

The ONE thing I think should be changed about ALL senate votes, is that it should somehow take into account not jsut the status of your economy/empire ON the turn of the vote, but between the entire election year period, so you can't just drop taxes on an election month to ensure election... :notsure:
