How badly do we need rain?

Much of the Eastern seaboard of the U.S.A. has been dry for weeks now.  The Washington, D.C. area has broken the record for most days without measurable rainfall, or had done that heading into today.  Today was supposed to bring a fair amount of rain, with the weekend clearing up behind the line of storms that was supposed to be passing through.

Except, hmmm, I see clouds and not much rain.  Not much at all.

We need rain desperately.  I know that the news had the stories about Atlanta (Georgia) being down to approx. 80 days of usable water if they don't get rain soon.  Areas in Virginia are already in water emergency status or the equivalent there of.

Things are bad enough that I personally would suffer through about 1,000 Joe User articles from the Clueless One himself if it came with a guarantee of some sustained rains.  That's how badly we need rain.

Does that convey how badly we need rain here?

By the way, the kind of rain we need is something that would be as persistent and consistent as a series of articles and the replies for same from the inferior officer.  Stuff that is just incredibly persistent.

We got a little rain tonite, but still not as much as I would like to have falling lately.  Tomorrow looks like we'll be back to sunny skies.  The rest of the weekend is supposed to be sunny also.  While I don't want a rained out weekend, we need more rain still.  Sooner, rather than later.

Almost all localities here are on mandatory rationing.  The "1/2 inch" rain we were told was coming last week amounted to about 1/10 inch.  And nothing good in sight.  Where are all these super hurricanes that Al gore promised us?

It's been the same up closer to D.C. proper.  The weather people tell us that the rains are coming and we see the weather radar showing bands of thunderstorms off to the west, but by the time they get to the D.C. area they've sputtered out and/or they move off the coast a bit and drop barely measurable amounts of rain.

We could really use some tropical systems to pass through and dump some serious amounts of rain, but we've pretty much gone through the hurricane/tropical weather season and gotten nothing at all.
