To Devs: Great Job...now maybe Stellar Frontier?

First off, I want to congratulate Stardock on the EXCELLENT job you've done with GalCiv. I can't express how impressed I am with the final version of the game :D

But more importantly, is there any chance that we can see a fix for Stellar Frontier (http://www.stardock.com/products/sf/) now that GalCiv has been released? I know you have been very busy (and still are) with GalCiv, but Stellar Frontier is completely broken. It's impossible to enter a server without encountering someone that's cheating. (I'm not going to repeat exactly how they've been doing it as there are hundreds of posts on the SF newsgroup pertaining to the issue).

I've heard rumors that a 1.2 version is in the works (possibley days away?). I've also heard that Doug is currently the only one working on SF and that he in fact isn't working. :notsure:

I'm just looking for some sort of official confirmation on the issue. Please don't leave us loyal SF players in the dark :(

Yes, I also play SF and have found it has begun to degrade. :notsure: I must congradulate you with the work you've been doing with Galactic Civilizations. (It's quite impressive.)

What Johnny said is true though. Cheaters are running rampant in the game. It is impossible to have much *fun* like it used to be.

I also heard about this 1.2 rumour from several other people in the peanut gallery/grape vine, and it would be great to see an improvement to it.

yes I have to agree with the above two. I have played Stellar Frontier for over a year and have started a modding community for it... (http://www.sfdevcenter.org) as the gameplay slowly degrades (due to cheating...and such), less people will probably play it. It is an amazing game and I would love to see it continue to thrive.

I haven't had a chance to check out GalCiv yet but it looks great and I've heard from a few friends that it's an amazing game. I too am worried about the state of Stellar Frontier. It's a great game, but with a lot of problems. I've been playing this game for over two years and it's still my favorite online game. Now that GalCiv has been released hopefully we can get an update to Stellar Frontier. :)

Its been abandoned to cheaters? Speaking of which, what will happen when cheats come out for GalCiv? Is there any cheat protection with the metaverse?

I agree with Johna10093. Some of us have paid $20 for Stellar Aces, and would like to see some fixes to the bugs in the game. The game has become difficult to enjoy because of all the cheating going on. Please help out your loyal SF fans.

I am also a strong supporter and user of Stellar Frontier. I and all whom I have talked to have agreed the game is beginning to slowly deteriorate and some work would greatly be appreciated. :)

Thanks!

Yes, I am but another 'Stellar Ace' for Stellar Frontier.

I really haven't heard much about GalCiv, and it doesn't really appeal to me, but I can see the effort put into this game. When I jioned Stellar Aces, back then known as Admiral's Club, it was more than a year ago.

They were developing GalCiv at the time still. It was beta for a long time. I'm not a programmer, but I do make webpages etc. and I can understand the time needed to make such a high scale game as this one. Even though it does not appeal to my interest, I still give Stardock excellent commendation for finally finishing this game, and as I see how others really like it, it must be good to those who like turn based strategy games.

Now I've been with Stellar frontier for about a year and 3 months and have seen it gone from good to mediocre to poor. I see how good this game is to hit retail and am wondering, 'why can't they do the same for Stellar Frontier'. Now I would like to help in whatever way possible, so this is why I'm asking anyone out there who works for Stardock who has access to Stellar Frontier source to help it. I understand it may not beyour project or some such thing, but please youi can at least do something, maybe just something as little as trying to contact Douglas Hendrix and telling him about all of this. I know someone who can help will look at this, and if and when you do, please help the deteriorating community of Stellar Frontier.

Thanks for your time in reading all of this. :p

Actually, the majority of those who participate in the community are quite commendable, the problem is with the game itself. Most of those who exploit the bugs and cheats in the game don't participate in the community, so its not the people that is the problem, its the game itself. Its getting less and less fun, faster and faster, especially since everyone now knows a way to cheat. Some work would be very much appreciated. Oh, and good job on Galciv, nice work there.

I agree. I hear GalCiv is great, but now that it's out and all, Stellar Frontier seriously needs a little attention. I've been gone for just under a year, I haven't seen a single significant update, and lag is worse than ever. At least drop a message in the newsgroups every now and then. I've even decided to start a modding website. http://phoenixlabs.cjb.net Please don't forget about us. (:(

GalCiv Team not involved with Stellar Frontier at all. Totally different group. Stardock publishes Stellar Frontier, we don't develop it.

Well Brad, Stellar Frontier "is" published by Stardock, and the opening screen for the game is "Stardock Presents". We just want to know if anything is going to be done with the game.

Rich - probably not. SF is several years old by now. I'm not sure what Doug and his team are going to be doing on it next.

Brad - A couple of months ago you told me the game continues to be developed. All we're looking for is a straight answer from someone.

I was just wondering. Does GalCiv have desync too?

I also wanted to know if there are any really annoying bugs in GalCiv.

"I also wanted to know if there are any really annoying bugs in GalCiv." Having played it for the last few days -- no. There are bugs, and some possibly poorly planned features, but "really annoying bugs"? No. The problems are mostly quite mild, and haven't really hindered my enjoyment of the game... although seeing them cleaned up will undoubtedly increase my enjoyment. :D

Stellar Frontier is pushing 6 years old now. I know I first played it a long time ago. :)
If GalCiv is continuing to be developed for even half as long, I'll be happy.

Brad and the others that made GalCiv have nothing to do with SF, and this isn't an SF forum. I think you'd do better getting in contact with Stardock rather than complaining here. SF is old, and while it's still fun, it is certainly well past it's use-by date.

(For the record, I downloaded SF when I got my drengin.net subscription and quite enjoy playing it. This just isn't the place to be complaining about it. :) )

We have complained in the SF-forums until we're blue in the face, with no results. At least here we got some kind of answer from the president of Stardock the first day. Personally I would think it would be rather embarrassing to give out such a buggy game to a whole new group of consumers. If Stellar Frontier was to be given to a new wave of customers with Drengin.net, Stardock should have made an effort to see about getting it updated first. Not a good advertisement of the other products Stardock has to offer.

If by "president of Stardock" you mean Frogboy, that's exactly what I'm talking about. :)

I've not noticed any bugs in SF, but I only play singleplayer.

Do you run to the Fifa boards to complain about C&C: Renegade? ;p

The point is Stellar Frontier is published and promoted by Stardock. Frogboy is Brad Wardell, who works for Stardock, whom I was told was its president. If not, my mistake. We're not far off the mark complaining here about a game promoted by Stardock, a game for which many of us purchased Stellar Aces or Drengin.net, from Stardock. And wouldn't you know it, GalCiv is developed by Stardock. Funny how that works, isn't it?
:p

Galactic Civilizations is not Stellar Frontier. This is therefore not a Stellar Frontier forum.

Brad's actually listed as one of the programmers/game designers in SF. But he just said he's no longer part of that. So you've got your answer from him. Go bug the people who can actually do something about it. :CONGRAT:

Mythor, we wish it were that simple. Many of us have consistently emailed Doug and his crew you can say, of course without avail.

Mayhaps Mr. Wardell could contact Douglas, or something that could reignite this old fuse. If you are selling a product, please give the cutomer what they deserve. I understand 'its not your area of work' but you have the power to contact the people who it is of. Or heck, just get us a way to contact Hendrix, and please dont say [email protected] as that is the first place many of us have written to. Thanks for reading this longer (but less) message :p

Humm... let's see. For the price of Drengin.net subscription, you get how many games? Sounds like the average gamer will probably find something fun in that set. Of course, I'm talking out my socks on this, as I haven't subscribed to Drengin.net (I got my GalCiv retail).

Still...
I can understand loving a game and wanting to know if the developer is going to do anything to fix some problems in it. However, publicly badgering Frogboy further would be pointless. He's answered your question: AFAHK, there is no more work. At this point, I'd suggest you just keep emailing Frogboy about the matter. Or asking for contact details that he could give you about the guy and his team responsible for your beloved game, so you can email them encouragement for more work.

Good luck!
