GalCiv II: Dark Avatar v1.7 BETA 4

GalCiv II: Dark Avatar v1.7 BETA 4

The final beta of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar 1.7 is now up (as of last night).

This beta was going to be released as the official 1.7 but we wanted to do more testing on it just to make sure.

The main changes have to do with memory use reduction and a few other crash bugs fixed. With any luck, this version should be rock solid and ready to go.

On Civilization Manager -> Colonies screen, after clicking a planet, changing something, and going back to Civilization Manager -> Colonies screen, the values aren't updated.

COncerning the image used in the 'Quick Ship Build' window, I'm going to suggest using an actual in-game model there...which could actually spin and rotate and look significantly cooler than the stretched pixelated icon shown above

I'll also ask about making this an option, but know that (if it gets implemented) it's an option that will be ON by default.

If you try to get money from a cash poor civ during trading, you get pop-ups after the trade window is closed that claims that the player doesn't have enough money for the trade. So, two issues: the pop-up doesn't show up where you can see it while your are trading, and the information on the pop-up is backwards.

I can confirm this. I don't know why I didn't report it myself.

I can also confirm the cash poor civ problem - same thing, and then telling me I didn't have enough cash when I never give cash to the greedy AIs!

Also I can confirm the new ship selection textures are an eyesore. They're not simply a drop in quality, they're ugly. They're nearly planet-battle ugly.

Another odd bug I'm experiencing is that sometimes the ship viewer during civilization selection/custom civ creation will spin, RAPIDLY, no matter what I do. It's very disorienting - this giant spinny blob of color in the bottom right of my screen while I'm trying to make crucial decisions about my civ, lol.

For those of you with the mouse cursor problem, please check to make sure you have the latest video driver for your graphics card.  This helped one user with the problem here:

If you still continue to have the problem after updating your drivers, please let us know.

Thanks.

I also confirm this. Didn't report it as was thinking I should start a game in 1.7b4 to confirm first.

I'm finishing up a game saved under the previous beta, so I can't comment on this beta yet. But, I will confirm shiva7663's report that AutoArchiving isn't working on SDC. I just checked it for my setup and the last archives are for GC2 1.50.128 dated 06/13/2007. The AutoArchive on Application Update box is (and has been) checked. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm running Vista Ultimate (x86).

Hmm, that would make sense; SDC would be trying to put the archived files in Program Files\Stardock\sdcentral\backup (or something like that), and it probably doesn't have permissions there.  You can change the default location in the Advanced Settings.

Isn't "doesn't have permissions there" a Vista quirk? I'm running WinXP SP2 with the same auto-archive issue.

If you're running a non-Administrator account you can experience similar issues on XP.
