Beta3 0.30 AI Game

I am on about my 7th 1 vs 1 AI game now, the lastest game was against a hard AI with the latest beta3 patch.

- The AI expanded rapidly to other systems this time, much faster than I did.
- My first encounter was a capship battle with the AI having more frigs but me having the stronger capship... The AI did something smart when it was losing it phase jumped to an adjacent system and when I followed it the damn thing jumped back again, and again and again. Now whilst you could argue this is a good move to waste time, keep the capship alive and send re-inforcements it was poor gameplay chasing the damn thing to and fro. I think maybe there should be some antimatter cost to phase jumps though Im sure there's a downside to that.
- Next battle the AI was struggling to find enough units to fight, and I marched on to its home system. The game was won at that point really but it still took ages to finish off the rest of its fleet which can get real boring after a while.
- My ships seem to be behaving themselves now and obeying orders.
- I just ignore the pirates they don't seem to be much threat as long as you have some defences.

There is an Antimatter cost to Phase jumping, it's 100 Anti-matter per jump, But if you only have 30 anti-matter it just puts you back to 0, Yeah I've noticed the AI acts smarter, it still seems they break off a losing attack far to late, in online play you can tell your screwed from the onset(unless remaining in the fight has some tactical advantage like buying time for defenses to be built at the next system, or reinforcements form an ally) and when you realize your screwed you immediately turn and phase jump away. it seems the AI always tries to kill something before running away

All of the AI issues are very well known, and beta 4 is supposed to have a new, and improved AI.

Out of curiosity was this rapid colonization caused by the AI choosing an Akkan as its flagship? I had a game where the AI was colonizing left and right. That was because it had an Akkan flagship. In the 1st 10 minutes of the game it had 6 worlds colonized compared to my 3 from colony frigs. AI still got beat, but that is a nice head start.

That should be fixed. You should have to charge up to 100 before you jump. I mean, it would make parts of the game difficult, but it means you'd have to be more strategic about how you move your fleet.

I agree, at the very end it's really annoying. There should be some sort of formula that could make the computer surrender or something, because the clean-up phase is no fun. Against a human they'll know when they lost and will leave as soon as they realize it unless they have an annoying trick up their sleeve.

Whats broken about it?

You mean it'd make it just about impossible to move your fleet anywhere.

I hadn't noticed the antimatter cost for a phase jump, my mistake.

It isn't broken--it's supposed to work that way. The point is to limit not phase jumping, but ability use by invaders.
