Idea for uneven multiplayer games

Today I came up with an idea that would need to be fleshed out a bit. I was starting a game with 5 people, so we did a FFA game because of the uneven 5th person. And I thought.. why not let a player control the Pirates. They wont necessarily win the game ever, just basicly be the one who controls the Pirate fleets. Of course you would need to have some different game play on how they are played. Like the only way to aquire money is by attacking people with a bounty on them, perhaps it will ally with everyone except the highest bounty to keep the person from attacking anyone they want. Maybe give them stealing ship type of ships, aquire enough money to buy capital ships or such. or have it auto generate ships you can pull out for the raid your gonna attack with. I just thought it would be nice for an un even game so instead of 5 people FFA you could have 2v2 1 pirate controler

that might be interesting. Doubt it will happen, but a game mechanic like that might be fun.

I thought of this after my first game but did not mention it because I did not think anyone would go for it. My idea was just about the same as yours have each ship be worth a certain amount of bounty so the pirate player is encouraged to go after the players with more bounty so they will gain more for more ships distroyed. But the pirate player should also have the ability to attack whoever for they are pirates allies to none but if the player they were attacking has no bounty they would recive none. The pirate player also should have the ablitiy to build ships quicker and cheaper then the other players but make them a little weaker. I had two ideas for The pirates base wise either the planet should be modifiyed to allow a large enough fleet depending on the size of the map and with a large pop and logistic capacity so that the base will take longer to take over and allow a fair amount of defences idea two is the pirates will have the ability to colonize plants just as anyother player . Players will then have to attempt to appeal to the pirates with large bountys and or support in attacking another player or defending the pirate base OR players can gang up and distroy the pirate outright. anyways enough of my rambling. I dont think that this could be put in to the current game but mabey as a mod ? ?

well I didnt think it would be appropriate to take over planets and attack whomeever you wanted just for the fact it would be another race instead of being the pirates. the Idea was basicly because the AI currently isnt that strong. If a player was in control the pirates it would make them alot more difficult to deal with. I just figured kind of keeping them as the pirates now just being controled by a real person. but would need some game play aspects that the player would need to keep there interest in actualy being the pirates. . and yeah its probably to late to implement it, but wanted to put it out there anyways.

well, to build on this stupid idea, something that I had in mind since the days of homeworld: a defeated player could take on some piratary role to keep him in the game and chatting. it wouldn't be too unreasonable for a defeated faction to resort to guerilla and pirate tactics to continue harassing the other players.

Giving the player control of the pirates isn't an option. Why wouldn't you just add in an AI player and lock his team to the 5th person instead?

The reason we didnt make it a 6 player game with 1 AI is because currently the AI isnt good enough to be a problem. in fact when someone leaves the game and the AI takes control ive noticed most of the time the players in the game then ignore that AI from the rest of the game. If you setup a 3v3 and 1 side has an AI then that side will obviously still be at a disadvantage so we did a FFA

The AI now isn't as horrible as it used to be.. it's nowhere as good as a player, but it's still better than nothing, it can at least lightly harass the enemy and slow him down a little

yeah, multianna was singlehandedly (nearly) crushed by the enemy fleet, only real thing that kept her from dying was that they never bombed her planet   it was quite funny.

that being said the hard ai is a teeny tiny bit of a struggle, but unless it really gets the drop on you its relatively easy to fight.

The AI is still pretty bad in combat. It can lose its flagship very easily, because it starts retreating very late. With a Sova you can pretty much always kill it early on, and then the AI is much less annoying. I recently played a single player FFA with 5 hard AI and it was a breeze
