What Do You Want In A Dream?

DeskScapes has been available for several months now, and DreamScene just went from beta to final yesterday.  Animated Desktops in Vista are becoming a more and more solid thing.  We've seen a lot of great contributions from a wide variety of artists here at WinCustomize.  Everything from original 3D renders, to great manipulations of static images with programs like Adobe After Effects.

My question is, what style of animated desktop do people like the most?  Do you have example to share?

Me personally, I like stylized Dreams that don't have too much motion.  Here are my two favorite community-contributed Dreams:

Poubel Tafiti v1.0 by brenopoubel

Circles by Hyszz

Both are absolutely beautiful and show off how cool an animated desktop can be without being too visually distracting.  When I pick a Dream to use, I look for ones like the Dreams linked above.

How about you?

I am personally more interested in Dreams that pertain to something I am interested in. I personally wish there were a sports section for dedicated fans of different sports. When I carry my notebook around, usually my wallpaper (in the past) has always had my favoite teams logo on it. Now with DreamScapes available & so beautiful, it is so hard for me to pick the same ol' boing desktop .jpeg.    I could NEVER go back to standard "stand still" wallpaper. I would love to see my favorite Schools flag flying on my desktop. I have tried & tied to create Dreams myself, but to no avail, I just must not be too intelligent when it come to this type of thing  ...lol (I realize there could be some copyrighting issues out there, but realistically speaking, I couldnt imagine anyone would complain unless someone somewhere were making some money off them?)

There is a dream on here that is a flag created by GH33DA that is absolutely stunning.   Not too much motion, but enough to know that it's a Dream. Me being a University of Alabama fan, I have tried & tried to re-create that Dream with the University of Alabama logo in the center to show my "school spirit," but I am unable to do so.

My point being, some of these Dreams are absolutely georgous, some are too busy, but in the end, I think the Dreams must show some personality, that to me, is so important.

Thanks for starting this thread, it gives us "un-talented" individuals a chance to be heard...lol

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that artists submitting work to sites like WinCustomize love feedback on what users like and dislike.  Otherwise, they're just tossing their work out blindly and hoping it sticks.

As for school themed animated wallpapers, those are a very sticky issue since the CLC very tightly controls use of school marks and logos, even in free work.

But for college theme fans, there may be something for you in the relatively near future    And since you're a big UAB fan, take a look at this:

Me?  I'm still waiting for a Penn State one  :\

I'm looking for a very subtle moving dream. I like scenery, so I'm a fan of the sunrise/sunset dreams, but I want to see something like that over a lake, since I'm a huge fan of water scenes, too.

I also want to see a desktop that's more practical. I'm still holding out for a dynamic dream that hooks up to weather.com or something, given my zip code, and looks up my weather. Then, the dreamscene changes to reflect the weather. Also, having the sun rise and sun set according to my computer's time would be a welcome addition.

I guess I'm really looking forward to more dynamic dreams. Of course, I have no idea how they work or how hard they are to code, so it's just my dream dreamscene.

No more videos! Please. They are good, a lot of hard work has gone into the ones on the site.... but dynamic dreams, which are better on the cpu/gpu and far more configurable would be great.

I know there isn't a way for the community to create those and that is something that needs to be corrected if possible.

I haven't found anything that can replace Liquid Dream.

I would love to see some seasonal dynamic dreams. snow being the obvious. Maybe an extension of the Natural Desktop idea. Background could change to rain, or sunshine or leaves blowing across the desktop when windy... etc etc. That I would happily pay a little more for.

I rather enjoyed ..in my self imposed Vista uptime... Chaninja's Shark dream, that's one talented son of a gun, lets see some more of that type quality\designed dreams.

I would love to see a dream that has a day night map of the world in which you could overlay radar maps similar to the way you do in G-Earth... probably a pie in the sky dream, no pun intended.

i wouldn't mind seeing a highly detailed dream of the night sky slowly changing over to day light with some hi def clouds and slowly transition back to night. or natalie portman morphing into vader and the his saber lights up and then morphs into megatron and then transforms into portman again....

How about some classic arcade dreams like space invaders or asteroids? That would be cool.

That broaches the land of copyright. You have to be careful on that tread. I know you arn' t the only one to bring something like this up but I thought I would say it anyway.

Id like a multi dymamic RSS feed system, with news events cascading down like matrix code in 3d.

And better mutimonitor options.

More of those 'dynamic content' dreams that utilise the power of a top end graphics card.

As simple as it was, I quite liked the rotating Stardock 'box' logo one and would like to see more of this kind of thing...

Wholeheartedly agree with you there, John

What do I want in a dream? I could probably tell you most of it, but a lot of the dream would not be "family-friendly."

I would love it if someone created a dream based off the moving background from the movie "The Island".

There was a clip of it on youtube, showing it in motion. However it’s been removed.

If someone would make a high quality dream of this that looks very close to the original, I would gladly pay for it.

Am I correct in my thinking that highly complex, mass movement is generaly out? Unless you work in full window applications all the time. For comon use you only really apply simple dreams that do not include motion sickness right?
no motion sickness....lava lamp speed is good and I also think that some of these dreams getting passed should not even get the go ahead to be posted. I would hope that with deskscapes 2.0 coming out we will see a flux of talent pour in......just my thought
