Game does not even start up

I recently purchased Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition, updated it to the latest version, and then activated it by email. Now whenever I try to run the program, Windows just hangs there and nothing happens. I receive no feedback and no programs are even attempting to load. After the initial installation, before downloading any updates, I was able the program and it worked just fine. Now that I have downloaded the latest official release and placed the sig.bin in the proper directory, I've have my current predicament. I should also note that the unresponsive hanging only occurs when I start up Dread Lords. Starting Dark Avatar still brings up a window for product activation.

Am I having an issue with the latest patch, or is there something wrong with the activation?
I'm really not sure where to go from here.

Thanks in advance.

Just to be clear, you put the sig.bin with the appropriate program (DL/DA will each have their own, IIRC)?

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Note: If running on Vista with DA 1.6b2 or later, or DA 1.7b on any OS, the debug.err is now located in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar.

I'm sorry, it appears this was all just some confusion on my part. Suffice it to say that I had the wrong sig.bin in the wrong directory. However now I have activated both Dread Lords and Dark Avatar and both are running correctly. Thanks for your time.
