When Walking, Walk

With palms together,

Good Morning Everyone,

To put one foot in front of another is the essence of our practice. When we can walk with ease regardless of conditions, that is our evidence.

Walking at ease is not difficult. One just walks. The noise of the day is heard but not kept; the smells in the air are smelt, but not kept; the sights are seen, but not kept; the tastes of our lives are tasted, but not kept; our feelings are felt, but not kept; our thoughts are thought, but not kept. Each of these we accept and each we give away.

Like a hand that opens, feels, and lets go, we step with each foot on the earth.

How do we practice like this?

What is the difference between a step and stepping?

We walk.

Yet we do not look for this evidence. This too, is left by the way.

Be well.

This is one of the things I had trouble with.  Still HAVE trouble with, actually.  Doing something for it's own sake, not seeing it as a pre-cursor or as a finale to something else and actually being present whilst doing it - yeah, it's difficult for me.

I find that the easiest way to awaken my chattering monkey-mind is to ask it to focus.

True enough. Awareness is an invitation to escape into chattering monkeys. It does no good to argue with them, chastise them, placate them: simply decline their invitation with respect. Second, do not try to focus. Focus is an effort of mind. There is a difference between "focusing" and "placing one's attention on" something. One requires conscious effort, the other does not. The first requires a participant; the second, a witness. Practice this way and you will have no problem.

Thank you for reading my blog.

A bow to you.
