With palms together,
Good Morning Everyone,
Some people have asked me how long it takes me to compose this morning message, others asked if I actually write them at the time I send them, and so on.
Answer: I write each note in about 15 to 30 minutes; I do not write prior to sending.
My writing process is simple-minded. I sit down with tea or coffee, type out my morning greeting, and begin. When I get to the end I stop. I then spell check as I am both prone to spelling errors and dyslexic fingers. I type with one hand as the other one does not work.
Usually something in the first sentence or two lights a trail to follow.
Like in this case, I want to talk about working. What works is a very American thing. Our sensibility is very pragmatic. This is very Zen. Not a lot of philosophizing in the practice and belief is an anathema to our Way. We just do. Like the old saw, "Spring comes and the grass grows by itself."
We realize through our practice of just doing what is there to do, that words are sort of false. Words are the pale riders of our lives. While they may be beautiful, deep and even meaningful, in the end, they are translucent pointers pointing to what is there before them.
Our work is the work of just being. The work of life itself. eating, sleeping, walking along the way. We make things, discard things, and re-make them. But the most important thing is the making of ourselves through our practice.
So, there you have it, another morning message.
I now leave for the Refuge. See you in a few days.
Be well.
