DA 1.61 - space combat bug

I didn't notice this already posted, so I figured I'd mention it. This has only happened since installing Dark Avatar, I never saw it while playing Dread Lords...I've not gone back and played a DL game through to see if it starts happening there or not. At some point in my games, NPC ships will fire at the wrong targets during space combat. The damage will be applied to the target they should have shot at, and the proper ship will show its defensive effects, but the actual firing animation is aimed at some other random ship on the screen - could be another of mine, could be one of theirs. I've noticed this in every DA game I've played so far, but it doesn't do it right away...there's some magical point in the game, after which it happens consistently.

I have noticed this as well, but it also occurred in previous versions of the game. I thought it was corrected but seems to have arisen in the latest version of DA. My casual observation has been that it is not consistent in that it does not occurr in every combat and only occurrs with Mass Driver type weapons.

I too have commented on this graphics issue, as well as others. As I have played the game I have observed that it is related mostly to the guns, either going off target or exploding too soon. I have noticed that when I reduce the number of ships in fleet combat that the directional error is not as grave, so it may be a memory issue -- how much memory does the combat viewer need to plot correct trajectories given ship movements while bullets are on route? With hugh fleets and weapons, even missiles can fail visually to hit their mark. I am no programer, so I cannot suggest a fix. Though I too desire one! In the mean time, I laugh about defective alien technology!

I don't think it's a memory problem. I have noticed this with my current game. All other players use Laser and Missiles which work and hit the way they should. This is my first game going the Mass Driver route and they just shoot all over the place but usually never on target.

In a two ship battle, the guns work good when both ships face each other but it will go wrong when the mass driver does not face the same way as the enemy ship. This happens in 1 on 1 and many on many battles.

BTW, why is the Preview disabled for posting? Editing posts is not allowed and the preview is disabled, too.

I just loaded my save game and the bug is really bad today. Here are some screens.

My ship, SDS MKIII will not hit the enemy and sometimes it flies into it's own shots, looks funny the first few times.....
Each screen shot is it's own battle.

Editing posts is not allowed and the preview is disabled, too.


You should be able to edit as long as your reply is the latest in the thread.

i have this bug with massdrivers too, the weapon animation is not linked to an enemy ship dummy. I had this bug since v. 1.50x .

I am happy to let you all know that the cause of this has been found, and a fix will be available in the next update.
