Announcing the WinCustomize/Maxthon 2.0 Skinning Competition!

Personalize your browsing experience, win cool stuff

WinCustomize, in partnership with Maxthon International Limited is pleased to announce the Maxthon 2 Skin Competition!  Starting this week, skinners from all over the globe will be able to design, build and submit their own custom Maxthon 2.0 browser skins to WinCustomize.com to compete for prizes and bragging rights in the skinning community.

Maxthon is one of the most customizable web browsers out there and has taken the Chinese market by storm with over 10 million users world-wide, and just this month released the final 2.0 version of the software to users.  With the release of 2.0 and it's vast number of improvements, now is the perfect time to check out the software and get to skinning it!

Most browsers either aren't skinnable, or have limited customization capabilities, making Maxthon an ideal browser alternative to those wanting to customize every aspect of their Windows experience!

Entries will be judged by WinCustomize and Maxthon staff and select community members.  We're really looking forward to see what great designs the skinning community will come out with!

For those interested, the contest details are as follows:

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • No geographic restrictions
  • Must have a WinCustomize account

Submission Rules:

  • Skins must work with Maxthon 2.0
  • Skin must be new and original work.  You may NOT submit skins that have been previously posted to any website or for any contest.

  • Most Usable: Apple iPod Nano 4GB
  • Most Popular: Wacom Graphire 4x5 Tablet

Sounds intresting, might actually have to check into this... as a side note, after looking at the site and the skins already there I wonder how many of them asked permission for thier submissions

I used it once a long time ago. Maybe I will try it again. 10 million Chinese cant be wrong.

Or was that 'Wong'? [some jokes are really old]....

That's incredible news! I've been using Maxthon for years. I haven't liked the skins for M2 yet, but with the talent here...let's just say I'm giddy.

I don't know how much this will help, but the skin Escape the Net for Maxthon 1 was the most downloaded and used. Possibly for usability and cleanliness.

Tell me about it.
I would love to enter this contest, but trying to skin this browser is very difficult. There is no app (that I know of) which can be used to skin Maxthon, and the wiki skinning reference isn't much help either. After hours of rigor, I still can't figure out how to do seemingly simple things, and you have to edit everything in the code too!
If anyone could point me to some good sources, that would be much appriciated!

Hmmm... Maxthon vs. Firefox... which is better?

Nope, Maxthon = Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer (Maxthon, AvantBrowser,...) vs. Firefox vs. Opera vs. Safari vs. Konqueror...

Sounds like a marketing ploy to me....

Sounds like a marketing ploy to me...

A skinner or two get a prize
The community gets skins
The browser gets publicity

Everyone's a winner!

Agree with Zubaz.

Can somebody help me to find the link where we may upload our skins. Or the Maxthon gallery is not created yet?

Great! I've used Maxthon for years, it had tabs (IE2) before anyone I think. It sadly lacks a variety of skins.

My bet would be that Opera was earlier...

I tried to upload the skin in "Maxthon" section but I'm facing a problem.
When I click on "Submit to Gallery" link and the next page is shown. I selected "Maxthon" in the drop-down list. But in next page where we have to upload the file, screenshot, etc. There is no option in "Category" drop-down box.

I filled all required details and when I clicked on "Submit" button. It showed error:

Your skin has failed to upload.

Error code: UploadDetails

So please fix it or tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

It's an error, having dev look into it.

All is well, you should be able to submit without problem now.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
