I'm not sure if you can do that with yahoo or hotmail accounts. If it does you'll need to find the address to the POP3 server. It'd basicly be the same as setting up en email client, like Outlook Express. Have a look at the help or support information, or FAQ to see if POP3 is supported by your email account.

As far as I know the only way to access Hotmail or Yahoo is via a premium account. Free accounts do not offer Pop3 and therefore will not be able to be checked via any external email checker

I'm using a small app called 'ePrompter' which, when minimised, resides in the system tray.

I use it to check Hotmail, Gmail, and my home [pop3] accounts. I can delete spam/crap at server level with it, so it never reaches my machine.

It supports Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, POP3, AIM, Windows Live Mail, AOL, Earthlink, Excite, ... etc. etc. etc... there's dozens of different types of accounts it supports. [Nearly all well-known ones]

No, It's not DesktopX ...but I thought you might want to know there's at least something that will work. I find it to be a very handy little app. Support and help for it at their site is also very good.

Oh, ...and it's free from http://www.eprompter.com and contains no spyware/malware.

So, eprompter is still around? Great little app used to use it on my laptop.

FYI It can be scripted. Case in point is that I used Webmail with Thunderbird and it seems to be primarily javascript.

*Note: This is not an offer, I haven't got a clue nor do I know javascript that well. Plus, I learned my lesson by opening my big trap on iReflector well ahead of the game!
