auto saved games

i think that since the game is auto saving then there should be a max number of games saved files 2-5. then they should be auto deleted.

especially since they are currently uncompressed files...

Eh, I believe they are tweaking the save game system for everyone who's complaining.

Why you guys are complaining is beyond me, just drop by the saved folder every once in a while and clean it out by "hand"... doesn't take more than a few seconds!

lol, poor Ron.

Complaining: this game is making too many save files

Feedback: how about whenever you manually save, automatically deleting all autosaves

Does anyone know where the saved game files are located?

No thank you! I actually like have 20-30 auto saves going way back.

Does anyone know where the saved game files are located?

documents and settings \ your name \ application data \ ironclad games \

From there it should be fairly obvious... I hope so because I don't remember the rest of the path off the top of my head.

As always Ron Lugge you provide sage council. You pointed me in the correct place. Saved games are found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\SavedGame

Thank you.

Yeah, but some people don't have it installed on the C:\ drive. Some people (for various reasons we don't' need to go into) don't even have a C:\ drive ATM (usually because they replaced it and didn't rename the new drive to "C" after they removed the old one).

What about in this situation "Ooops..."

And SINS is saving a 350mb file each time it autosaves? Granted in the finished product the files might be compressed a little, but surely a limit on the number of files to save would be a good option to include.

More than a little--simple zip compression can cut the saves to 1/100 size as it is. It's just not a priority at the moment, since with saves in plain uncompressed text they're easier to analyze for problems.

Um, 'easier to analyze' doesn't mean "lazy devs"... I happen to have a little background in programming, and trust me: any simplification you can introduce to a complex program during the debug process can easily make the difference between finding a bug, and having to re-write the broken code from scratch to try and get it right this time. And the latter is, obviously, not a very good idea for a project as big as this one.

In that case, be glad that terabyte sized hard drives are coming closer and closer to being the norm

Just out of curiosity, what happens when Sins doesn't have the room to save anymore? Does it go "boom"?

And just to clarify my position a little, I do not object to controls that limit how much HD space goes to Autosaves, what I do oppose is any approach that cannot be controlled by the end-user. Approaches involving limiting the number of saves (up to infinity) the total size used by saves (up to infinity) and the total percent of HD used by autosaves (up to 100%) would all be acceptable -- especially if we get all three
