ship cannon fodder

well i think thats the ships should move and not stay still while in combat other wise 2 ships just stand still and shoot each other could you make it so smaller ships dog fight and the capitals orbit each other at a distance or something also something for system defence guase guns are ok but they don't do much damage to capitals maybe a missle battry or a largelaser or rail gun with slow tracking and reload so it's only for larger slower ships

I'm not sure about the dog fights but I do like the idea of capital ships orbiting each other.

I defentaly think we need more options for system defense because gauss guns just dont cut it. I do like the idea of a missile battery or lazer gun (think Ion Cannon from C&C).

BTW: Rail Gun is just another term for Gauss Gun, they both use the same technology (at least in the real world).

well i don't think the smaller ships should just sit still face each other and shoot they should move try to evade incoming fire try to get a better angle of attack on the enmany ship

:O Use Punctuation, it took me a couple of read throughs to get what you were saying :O

yes, I think more defences are needed in general, not just anti capital ones.

just beef up the gauss cannons with a slow reloding and powerful anti-capship cannon.
but is only effective when 3 or 4 gauss cannons are firing.
so a cap could take on 1 or 2 but anything over would be suicide.

I believe Gauss Guns are, technically, a coilgun, not a railgun. The rail gun uses a totally different principle from the coilgun gun.

Coilguns (AKA gauss guns) utilize coils that conduct electricity to generate a magnetic field that moves a projectile. Railguns are two rails that conduct electricity across a (free to move) bridge, which creates a force on that bridge and causes it to accelerate.

I agree, more ship movement would make the combat more interesting to watch. If weapon movement from firing unit to target is more than a visual representation of weapon delay, it'd be interesting to be able move frigates in front of enemy fire to reduce damage to capital ships too.
