Germany's Idea for stabilizing Iraq! Send in Iran!

Germany's Idea for stabilizing Iraq! Send in Iran!

This man is an AssenKlownenn!

I am sure Iran would be only to happy to cooperate in this little gem of a plan : (edit - Shroeder didn't mention Iran this is sarcasm on my part. Hat tip to Gerry Atrick for the heads up on vagueness)

"I have doubts whether NATO is the best instrument available to bring stability there," Schroeder told reporters after meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt.

Schroeder, who ruled out any role for German troops in Iraq even before the U.S.-led invasion, said Iraqis would probably see NATO troops as occupiers.

It would be better for Muslim countries to send a stability force, he said. "They are better equipped to get the necessary trust" from Iraqis.

The Mullahs are drooling as we speak! This is the E.U.'s idea of diplomatic initiative? I say again AssenKlownenn!

I wanna wrestle, too, but just with Estrogen Lass.
Politics is a pretty inexact science, tho, guys. Most of my analyses are accomplished by looking at a situation and applying my natural pessimism.
Gerry, do you think the corruption would be a problem for them working as security forces, then? I'm not sure, but I had heard an anecdote that Mexican companies wouldn't invest in Indonesia because they were too corrupt. I really have no idea if this would affect their effectiveness at policing and performing military strength security, though. Does the business/political corruption overflow into their military structure?
I really wish the UN wasn't such a strawman.

Yeah, and you didn't get an invite, Pseudo. Take it easy Grey, I'm sure she meant it innocently.

lol, there is never anything innocent with us Catholics hence all the guilt!

If it makes you feel any better, grey, it's just that I would find grappling with her preferable to grappling with, say, Judoman over there, or Drunken You. That's what I meant by "just", anyway.

pseudosoldier,
The Indonesian army certainly has a bad reputation...but they would probably be ok under control of other countries officers....to tell the truth I dont really know....we shall see what happens.....

Gerry,
Why do you feel they would be under control of other countries officers? Are we looking at a definite, comprehensive UN presence here? I mean, I'd honestly like for the UN to be involved... I don't think it does nearly what it should to justify its existence. But is it UN SOP to place troops under officers of other nations?
While Indonesia may have a lesser interest in taking over Iraq, if its military has a poor reputation, I'm not so sure I'd want them in there either. I would remain unconvinced of which evil was lesser, so to speak.

And I slip back into my mantra (There is no good answer in Iraq, there is no good answer in Iraq...) Thanks for the civil discussion, tho.

pseudosoldier,
I guess I feel out of my depth comentating on military stuff without a military background....whereas people like yourself and greywar write from a position of experience. But I also agree I would like the UN to take a greater role....in fact I think its essential to try and rectify the problems there. And I definitely agree with
There is no good answer in Iraq

The UN refuses to take any role that might involve actual force of arms. They were out of Iraq so fast after one car bomb it made my spin. There is *zero* resolve in the UN when it comes to actually doing anything.

Hey.....so I just read some articles about wrestling me. So you dont think I cant kick your ass Pseudo? BRING IT ON!!!!! P
But Greywar is correct......If I do any wrestling, it will be with him and him alone.......you can take our incriminating photos that will later be "stolen" if you want to.
Oh and....yes. I'd still kick your ass Pseudo-man. And Greywar's too. But definitely not Stoney.

Lassie, please don't think that I feel you couldn't kick my ass. It's just that it would be such a sweeter ass-kicking than I would get from some of the testosterone-laden alternatives.
Gerry, don't feel too far out of your depth. I've never been "on the ground", and it wouldn't really lend itself to this discussion anyway (IMO). Really, the way its military might behave is more a political consideration than anything else.
And, greywar, I know the UN has a clear lack of ballage. I was simply expressing my wish that it were otherwise. Seems a bit daft to have an international organization set up for policing its members and the world at large if it won't actually do so.
