Grand Theft Empire

While playing the Sins Beta 2, I was sort of reminded of my days playing Homeworld. One of the gameplay features that I love in HW was the ability to steal my oppenents ships. I think that Sins would be more interesting if you could do that (especially if it allows you to sell the ships on the blackmarket, assuming that you don't have the logsitics to support it).

Also, you could expand on that idea. Imagine being able to set up a gravity well generator in the middle of a trade route and stealing enemy trade ships (or the occasional frigate or cruiser). First, this would be lost income for your enemy, and second, you would get some credits for selling the ship plus cargo on the blackmarket.

I like the idea of intercepting enemy ships in jump.

You wont be able to steal enemy ships, but the Advent will be able to temporary take control of ships for a period of time, but not capital ships

Through mind control I take it? Couldn't you just tell the crew to commit suicide and then board the ship?

Maybe suicide is easier to resist than being commanded to attack someone else.

Still, I think the Advent will have one Anti-Planet attack that commands the people to kill themselves (or something like that). Hmmm, maybe the anti-planet attack actually commands people to attack each other....that would make a lot more sense.

But then we come back to the question of why the Advent don't just command the ship crews to attack EACH OTHER.

yep, Linky

Even if only the pirates could steal ships, that would still be cool.

That i not sure about

I agree, but it would be cool if the pirates collected something from the ships that was actually in the the form of collectable credits so whe the pirates were destroyed you could get it.

Or maybe have a bounty on a pirate.

Or give certain notorious( and surviving) pirate fleets or captains names and let bounty be placed on them individually.

I like an idea of ship black market... Since there already is a black market in the game. Perhaps it wouldn't even be a market as such but hiring mercenaries. A guy with good economy would be able to quickly raise a second-hand fleet. I guess no capital ships should be sold in this manner. I can't see what good a Vasari ship would do to TEC which can't use it's special abilities.

There could be a lot of pirate ships available (or only their ships) with high upkeep to make them always ready but expensive mercs.

It would be cool to have planets with already present orbital space structures from which you could recruit special(pirate like) units.

And in my opinion pirates should get different ships not the same ships as the TEC.

But it's already been stated that pirates will have their own ships...
