Request: ship building graphics

Well...at least I think it's important :P

I haven't checked to see if this was added or requested yet (sorry if it was on either count), but I think it deserves consideration.

I remember that a lot of the fun of building a fleet in the game "Conquest: frontier wars" was that you you saw your ships being built from the inside out while they were in "drydock". It made you feel like your hard earned random-space-resources were being put to good use.

On a slight tangent...

You could build as many shipyards as you had room on planets (kind of like the planet slot system in SOASE) and could build as many ships as you had shipyards (with command point limitations of course, also like SOASE).

However, the difference between SOASE and conquest is that you could see your ships being built, even when you were a little backlogged on command points the ships would be built and simply wait in the shipyards until some (command points) are freed up or built. I think that this meshes well with the ideas that have been implemented in SOASE so far...(the idea of building ships while the research is still in the works...etc...)

Thanks, and keep up the good work Devs and beta testers alike!

It takes alot of animation to make 1 ship being built, let alone over 30 ships. It would just be too much work on their part.

the Devs have announced their intention to do something like that, even if its only looks like the way the buildings are currently built.

Maybe so, maybe so. But in Conquest it wasn't the fact that it was an amazing graphical feat that made it cool (it was just a bunch of small graphics of ship innards being put together in a shape that vaguely looks like the shape of the ship and slowly the bulkheads of the ship being placed around it) it was the fact that you got the impression that they were actually being constructed.

That's good; and I do understand that the devs have much bigger things on their plate than this, but anything is better than stuff just...appearing out of nowhere.

You wouldn't need to have a "proper" animation -- just a texture for "incomplete", then slowly build up the polygon of the ship, applying that texture anywhere "unfinished".

Endurell2006 had a good point. I'm not sure how many of you played Conquest, but it had an adequate ship building animation. It doesn't have to be overly complicated. However, since the developers have already apparently announced their intentions to have a ship building animation, I don't think this is any great concern. After all, they've done a great job so far!
