I would like to see the Logistical and Tactial point pools merged into a single 'Orbital Structure' pool.

There really is little reason in merging the pools in the current game. Muchless a reason to further increase the logistics per planet.

The latest hotfix that changed the logistics around made a quantum difference in gameplay, by allowing 1/3 the logistics per planet then previously. There really isn't a need for more given a sufficiently large enough galaxy.

You mean 3 times the previous amount? 1/3 would make it actually less logistics.

you should have played the first few days when the beta came out... There was a max of 9 slots TOTAL.

Yeah, but then only refineries and trade centers were 2 logistics. All other orbital structures were one. (Asteroid mines have always been zero)

Considering that we also need more labs now, I would say our logistics capability has gotten worse, not better.

I think the few logistics slots available is a good thing. It forces you to actually expand and not just turtle at a few planets. If you could just load up on the research centers, and reseource acquiring upgrades on one planet then there is little point to making yourself vulverable by expanding. As the game stands right now, you can stock up on research centres at your home base (to a small degree), but it would mean that you did not spend the resources on ships to capture new areas and you put yourself at a disadvantage by having less in the long run. RTS games generally are all about resources. You just need a military to maximize your reousources. If you don't need to expand militarily (by capturing new planets and the like) then there are less factors being balanced and the game is not as much fun.

What might make things interesting though is having bonus to certain types of logistics buildings. For example, in some sectors make it so that research centres, trade centres, or refineries take up less slots or make it so that they are in some other way more effective.

Okay, I am mostly sold. The present Logistics system allows you to build up defenses that can repel weak/medium attacks...or at least buy time. But if you could build up static defenses that could repulse any fleet, then the game would become stalemated.

So looking at it like that, the present system is pretty balanced

Of course, they could combine Tactical and Logistical, and then halve the resulting number. Then we would have to make some hard choices between logistical type structures or defenses.
