AI not able to expand without Flagship / Trading problems

Hi all

I tried a game without flagship (by mistake actually) and marauders but once i had started it, i decided to continue anyway.

As i was exploring my first solar system, i noticed something weird.

1 - There was still pirates protecting every single planet (ok i guess, i don't mind)
2 - The CPU in my solar system was unable to expand his empire beyond 2 or 3 planets and by the time he was ready, i had cornered him into a space less the 5 planets (for 2 CPU).

Only on one occasion he organized a fleet large enough (3 cap ship, lots of frigates) to punch through my "choke point" but i was able to recover. Apart form that, his attacked where limited to sub 10 ship fleet which gets wiped out before they even turn around.

has anyone notice the same behavior.

Another issue i noticed is that i originally had a trade ship going toward a allie in that region (before i turned on him, he was trying to populate planets i was freeing form pirates. I hate free-loaders) and once i declared war on him, they did not turn around... they continued toward him and got annihilated. The same thing happen to his fleet of traders. They had ample time to turn around, they just carried on until they got butchered. Weird.

Also, i now have a ally in the other system BUT my trade ships seems to ignore that. Can they not jump stars?

AI, even long term allies seems to very seldomly want to go beyond for a cease fire. Even when they are atacked, wierd.

Finally, when the AI pings for help, shouldn't he not include the info on the place he ask for help? I get ping to help at ? all the time.

agreed, its annoying because they call the same rock eleven different names, but if I click on it it gives me the same place...

yup

dont think so... it would be economically inefficient if you ask me.

I tried a similar game, I noticed almost immediately that the AI across the board had lowered their bounties substantially (some even had it completely removed in a matter of minutes, while others were still at 875+) which means they fed their ships to the slaughter, that needs to be adjusted.

I believe its a 'bug' they are going to work on. well, not technically a bug, but more like a coding oversight. (something you wouldnt bother to smooth out until you're in the later editions of the beta, near shipping I would assume.)

Pirates are in every game. The option at start-up is just for marauding pirates - those that seek out planets.
