NovaBurst's Sins Beta 2 Comments

Moved from another thread:

NovaBurst:

+ Intuitive interface, but can be better. In particular the left empire overview panel, it's confusing.
+ The Music is good, but there isn't enough variation or different music pieces so it gets repetitive.
+ Rogue non-faction units, ie. the Pirates, but not very believable in the current stage that they just magically appear out of no where.
+ The resource gathering, except there's too much metal and too little crystal available.
+ The Research, but I'd like to see capital ships higher on the list. And the Empire research changed/moved around. It's not as interesting as the combat techs, or as necessary.
+ The graphics are very nice, but graphics doesn't make a game. Though I wouldn't be opposed to more eye candy of course.
+ The AI response, though it isn't always appropriate, and it spams a bit too with calls for assistance early on when it shouldn't need it. It could be more elaborate with the player being able to ask the AI for help at a certain planet, or to coordinate an attack on an enemy planet.

Things that annoys me,
- Lev Construction Frigate is often in the way, especially at certain zoom levels and the even more so early game where it's positioned right next to the Light factory.
- Often times when I click to navigate a fleet somewhere, happens at odd zoom levels, it picks some obscure planet to fly to rather then a destination within the gravity well where I did click.
- Not enough time to enjoy ship fights. this is fairly broad I realize, but perhaps more advanced warning systems for other parts of your empire could help elevate the frustration that is to zoom down and enjoy a battle, only to fail to realize that one of your other planets is being captured by pirates or your scout didn't have further orders and engaged a pirate fleet.
- Carrier ships like the Percirien should have more fighters/bombers. For a ship dedicated to being a carrier, it has surprisingly few squadrons. Adjusting costs / build time to offset an increase in squads would be appropriate.
- Team AI is a thieving "!¤"%, stealing my planets right after pirates/opposing empire has smashed it to pieces and I liberate the area. It's a bit too fast with it's colonizers.
- AI spams too many scout ships, even after it's already explored most of the universe
- Bounty gets too ridiculous. Let us buy off the bounty or counter it somehow.
- There's room for more rich and deep diplomacy options, there is only war right now which is fine but could get dull at some point.
- Played a team game last night, 3 vs 3, ie. my self and two AIs vs 3 AIs, and it was apparently over when I defeated one of the AIs, despite the other empires still having planets left. Also the AI doesn't seem to do much cooperation.

I agree, I wish I could at least move it around or have a default way point all to itself that you can put it where YOU want it.

I'd like a flashing icon around a plant soon to be attacked, or something like. And have it implemented at the zoom level when the PIPs around the planets are visible.

Agree, the carrier capital ship should start with 3 squads, and go up to 8 total (at level 10)

This has been happening for awhile...

- AI spams too many scout ships, even after it's already explored most of the universe

Actually, not sure if you ever played Beta 1, they actually have around 50% less scout ships now, than they did in Beta 1, so it is a lot better.

- Bounty gets too ridiculous. Let us buy off the bounty or counter it somehow.

Agreed , but with the next patch this should be resolved somewhat.

- There's room for more rich and deep diplomacy options, there is only war right now which is fine but could get dull at some point.

Agree, we need more options, and maybe even an option to trade research for credits or resources...

Joined during beta 2, so didn't get to experience what B1 had to offer. As it is now, it isn't /that/ bad, but I still think it's a bit excessive at times.

Looking forward to the first B2 update.

Couple points more I thought of while playing a recent 3v3 game.

- Cooldown period between Phase Jumps for Pirates.
Pirates aren't bound by Antimatter, and spin up jump drives considerably faster then non-pirate ships, not to mention they aren't bound by having to wait for formation apparently.
This leads to "planet hopping", where the ships sits at the edges of the gravity wells and jumps back and fourth between two systems. Quite the source of frustration.

- There's far too many jump lanes in general, and too few dead ends or one way planets.

- AI is too poor at sending out combat ships ahead of it's colonizers, and doesn't defend it's colonized planets properly (Medium difficulty). Not sure if this has been addressed for an upcoming update, but figured it's worth pointing out again.

Antimatter is not needed for phase jumping.

true, but as long as theres antimatter, it gets a % penalty when jumping

The AI doesn't just scout to explore--it does so continuously through the game so it knows the buildup status of the planets, fleet locations, etc.

I'm not afraid of you! (Okay, maybe I am a little...)

Does anyone else think that the ability to deploy some sort of homing mines is a good idea? They could work wonders as a defense.
