How is Live Earth not doing more harm than good?

Can someone please explain to me how the Live Earth concerts aren't doing more harm than good?

Unless every single attendee got there by walking (and even then you'd have to factor in the carbon footprint of the companies that made the attendee's clothing, shoes and other items they were wearing while on the way) I don't see how Live Earth isn't doing more to actually add to global warming, rather than to get rid of same.

Attendees eat and drink when at the events.  Hot dogs or Hamburgers that were cooked how?  Bags of snack food that were made how?  Even if you went entirely natural, there were farm implements and machinery involved.

The electricity to power the amplifiers, big screens, and other big electronics that were in use at the venues?  How much of that stuff was solar or wind powered and if so, was there not someone along the way using something with a bigger carbon footprint just to keep their own power going?

Don't get me wrong and think that I'm saying that we should do nothing about global warming or just ignore it as a possible problem.  I'm just trying to figure out why having concerts to raise awareness is part of the solution rather than being seen as part of the excess that has added to the problem.

Yup, same thought crossed my mind as well. It's really just yet another pointless bit of fluff that you can bet is pouring cash into someone's pockets.

While they send out live camera shots of the event from their Blackberries, Razrs and iPhones, while telling us WE'RE living extrvagantly.

Hypocrites all!

This is just another "thing" to make liberals feel good about themselves as they try to convince people that they really doing something, even though they are not.

Dont forget the 24x7 TV coverage.  Those trucks and cameras do not run on air.

Let's see, the electricity used to make the concert possible, the gas used to get there and to carry the equipment, all the food that was cooked there, the thousands of cellphones used to stream the event, the noise level, oh yea, the extravagant lives that the artist already live but are telling us not to live. Did I miss something? Please let me know.

The worst part is that chances are most of the people who went to this concert went looking for a good time and not necessarily for the reason the concert was done. Otherwise they would have noticed what we noticed here.

Back in the days of RATM, I always said "never trust anyone who sells socialism at $50 a ticket". Now you can add to the list "never trust an environmentalist who puts on multimillion dollar concert extravaganzas".

while I don't think that Live Earth helps anything at all, a few of the statements that you made gave me a chuckle.  If those people hadn't gone there, would they not still be wearing clothes?  Would they not eat and drink?  I guess the only solution would be to nuke all those people so that they wouldn't need clothing or food.  lol

Hmmm, then we might have to get rid of the "Got milk?" ads and I like them. Oh yea, what Doc said.
