Planet Dark Sides

I'm not really sure if this is feasible or practical to implement, and it's definitely not needed in the game for any gameplay purposes, but it would be a really cool effect if it's possible. It would be cool if the sides of planets not facing a star would be dark, like in real life. On unsettled planets they could be completely dark and on settled planets they could be covered in lights. The density of the lights could depend on the population of the planet. Just an idea...

The idea sounds cool and it's probably something they'd do, but it's not feesable during a beta. They did promiss a hell of a lot of eye-candy closer to release.

It's already implemented.
Terran planets show it off best. volcanics glow on the dark sides. Since hot metal glows red.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming

i would like more cities/ lights over the world on the dark sides, just as a testament as to how many people live there, mainly on capital planets i would like to see it. Also, what about large land or sea transports moving around the planet ? that would be awesome to see.

The amount of vehicles buzzing around the planet is related to population and buildup of the planet.

In my opinion they could remove the ships flying back and forth between the nodes on the planet. They just look bad, or atleast give me an option to turn them off. The planets look great as they are. The ships flying back and forth are too big and they fly too fast, and there's too many of them. And at the rate they come out of that tiny node, there must be the fastest parking service in the galaxy.

I believe you can turn them off in the Effects options. Turn off planet Elevators.

Great, missed that one, thanks!

I sorta like the ships flying around, but they could be made a bit smaller...

The planet ships should be smaller and a bit slower.

I really would prefer if they simply got rid of the construction ship and used swarms of those tiny planet ships to complete construction projects. They would be like civilian contractors who fly up into orbit with the construction crews and materials when you select the build order. They would swarm around the project until it is completed.

*maybe they could be set to not build (or build more slowly) during combat.

I wish you could build construction frigs !

Just upgrade your logistics/tactical levels, and you'll get more. Personally I manage construction via the planet itself anyway, so manually building construction frigs would just be an annoying layer of extra micro to me.

Now that would bew cool. And you'd still only be able to build however many projects at the same time as if you had the contruction ships. Something having to do with not having the logistics needed to support more builds at once. And I'd agree with the slower builds during combat for logistics structures, but I'd keep the tactical structures at the same build rate.

I tend to agree with kryo here. This game is more manageable by just clicking on the planet, selecting a project, and having the construction frigate build the project automatically. It's far easier to manage a large empire if you don't have to micromanage everything yourself.

the dark side of the planet thing is good but there should be many more lights cos the population would be higher than the population on this planet so nearly all the land would be housing and city blacks so it would be very bright.
