Windows Blinds wallpaper changer NOT working!!!!!

I'm using windows vista and have WindowBlinds 5 (5.50 (build 102 x86 - Vista Edition))  I have the wallpaper changer set up to change every hour but it is not working.  Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?  Thanks

did you reboot?

do you have your desktop icons hidden?

do you have any other wallpaper software?

Not sure if this applies with Vista but it does with XP. Go into WB configuration click Override default settings, if there is a check mark in Apply the wallpaper with the skin, remove it. Save the change. Now try the wallpaper changer again, hopefully it works.

I'm not using Vista, I'm using XP, but to be a bit more specific, every time I try to use a skin, all of the modified objects become invisible, or black, depending on whether it has translucency I think. I know it's not the skin itself because even the defaults do this. On top of that, I've tried creating my own, and I have the same issue, it also shouldn't be a video card issue since I am running on a Radeon 9250. other info includes the fact that it's registered and properly installed, according to the sys info.

Chaes Heath/Gamedazed -
this post is about vista and the WB wallpaper changer function
you need to start another post - don't forget to copy/paste you system info from WB configure

good catch philly0381, i keep forgetting stuff

Thanks Bichur, I only knew that because i used the wallpaper changer a couple of times. People sometimes forget about WB configuration and the things it controls.

Maybe it has something to do with the WB tray neding to be in the taskbar. I'll give that a go and post back

I'm having the exact same problem. Running Vista 32-bit and the wallpaper changer just will not work.

WB - skin set wall unchecked?
desktop icons not hid?
any other wall paper manager running?
any web items on desktop?

Ok, since we now have a second person where the wallpaper changer is not working I went into the changer set it to change on login, selected two walls, neither one was my current one and hit OK. I exited out of WB configuration and loged out and in twice. It worked fine.

So, try it once more using reply #2 as the starting point, go into WB configuration make your way to the changer, select several walls (don't use your current wall). To test the changer select it to change on login. Be sure to hit OK and not just go to the upper right corner and exit.

I should point out that when you do make changes in WB configuration or elsewhere there will always be either an APPLY or OK button, if you want the changes to be made you have to select one of these. This could very well be the problem you are having, simple but most people miss them.

Now if this doesn't correct your problem I would refer to reply # 1 and 8. It would then apperar that another program is in control of your wallpaper.

Let us know if you get it working.

I can assure you that I have nothing else in control of my wallpapers. WindowBlinds was the first thing I've ever wanted to let control my wallpapers. Also, my desktop icons are not hidden, I have no web objects on it, and I don't have WindowBlinds set to use skin wallpapers (I hate having skins assume I want to use that wallpaper with it). I should point out one thing, though. It appears that no matter how often I have the changer set to change my wallpaper, as long as I have it set to randomly change, whenever I log on it always changes it to one certain wallpaper. Then if I open the WB window and go to the Change my Wallpaper section, it has the one that was previously applied selected.

Okay someone31988, glad you came back. I'll try to see if I can be of some help.

First off, sometimes the questions will seen very basic, I won't be talking down to you, just trying to make sure that you hit all the right steps.

It would appear that you have the first part okay with checking the different replies that where mentioned. This may just be terminology by when you say you have your wallpaper set to randomly change, where are you doing that? Is that the button the you see in the WP changer that says Change the wallpapers in sequence?

If you are using the WP changeer it should over ride what you have selected in the Change My Wallpaper section, that sounds confusing. The basic Change My Wallpaper section is meant to only change the current wallpaper to another. Once you get into the Wallpaper Changer section and select the wallpapers you want to use it takes over.

Now here comes the DUH part, when you are in the WP changer it's split into two sections, the upper section are all the wallpapers that you have loaded on your computer.

To select which ones you want the changer to use you click on a wall and then hit the add button. This will then show that wall in the bottom section. You keep doing this untill you have the walls you want to use. If you want to use all the walls there's an add all button, and there's a clear all button for you to do what it says.

Once you have all the walls in the bottom section that you want to use there is a OK button in the bottom right hand corner, hit that. It will accept the changes you made.

For strickly testing where it's working or not I would have the wallpaper change evertime I logon. This way your not rebooting your machine, just login off and on.

I use the wallpaper change everyonce in a while and it works. Hopefully with this you will be able to get yours to work. Now if it doesn't then you may have a bad file, although that would seem strange if this is the only problem you are having.

Good luck, and come back to lets us know what happens.

Yes, I already have my selection of wallpapers picked out, did that when I first tried to use the wallpaper changer. What I meant by randomly was that when it's set to change in the morning or at log on or every hour, however long you may want, the box that says to change them in sequence is unchecked for me since I don't want them in sequence, I want them to be random. Yes, I have had it set to change every time I log on and tested it numerous times, but that produces the same result. It does not matter how often I have it set to change, every time I log on, it changes to the same wallpaper. Sorry for being bold and blunt, but I had to make that clear. Even if I set it to change every hour, it will change to one certain wallpaper when I log on and then not change every hour as it should. If I set to change every morning, it will change to the same certain wallpaper when I log on and then not change the next morning.

Hello someone31988. Sorry to have to say this but it would appear that either something else in messing with or controlling your wallpaper or the wllpaper changer is broke. My only other suggestion is that you contract Stardock support.

We've not had other people join this thread, so either it's working or they don't use the function.

As I mentioned before I tested it to make sure the it worked on my computer. Used the change on login feature and each login a different wall would be loaded. Your type of problem though fustrating does happen and usually can be cleared up.

Stardock support would be my next move. Hope that you find a solution to your problem.

Thanks for all the help. Quick, clear responses are always great. I had suspected that something had just become broken at the beginning because this isn't the only odd problem I'm having with WindowBlinds. I've already gone through StarDock Support with my other problem and it ended up not being able to be resolved and was sent on to the development team. Also, I realized that it is WindowBlinds applying this same wallpaper at log on because the wallpaper is wall.bmp which is stored in the WindowBlinds Program Files directory.

Just two cents worth here. I use Webshots, so I can't use this changer.
However, I did want to say that I have a LOT of things that no longer work since I got Vista.

Hello, I have the same issue with wallpaper changer. Every hour is not working but instead it changes wallpaper everytime I logon... (and setting is set to change every hour). The only wallpaper add-on software I have installed is Dreamscape.

Trying it out again - so far has changed once...

desktop icons not hidden
wall in properties originally set to none (now shows 'owner wall'
WB skin decides wall unchecked
all walls added to lower window in WB configure
set to change each hour
no web items
no other wall manager running

I'll be back...

it has changed again
still changing...

now to mess with desktop icons...
oops... forgot to hide icons

but it changed again

oh yeah, XP SP2

not sure if Dreamscape has an effect (don't have vista) - but logic would say no if it's not on.

desktop icons hidden....

Hey Bichur, thanks for jumping in. I wonder if whatever other problems that someone31988 is having could be effecting the WP changer? Plus it would be nice to know what Stardock support maybe thinking. I wouldn't think it would be a hardware problem, do you?

desktop icons hidden = no change of wall

as soon as I show the icons, the wall changed

Interesting Bichur. Someone31988 said that there were no hidden icon on the desktop. Is it possible to have an icon hidden and not no it (I'm not making fun here, serious question)?

hey Philly0381..

I gots no idea on the hardware thing... but I'm guessing not. possibly graphics drivers? maybe a uac thing?
Don't know what the other problems someone31988 is having, so I got no clue on that either.
I'm not running Vista so my testing options are less than limited...

I see that my windows wallpaper(using vista) is in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\ directory. Now when I manually change the wallpaper through WB it will stay the same file name but WB will change the contents to whatever wallpaper chosen. WHen automatic changing wallpaper is on it does not change the file. Right now am deleting that file in the wb directory and changing my windows wallpaper through the windows interface. I'm going to set WB to automatically change every hr but WILL NOT manually change it at all. I'll report back if it helps.
The thing is though, if I can change wallpaper through the WB interface manually and it is working, then it leaves me to believe that it's something with WB not making the change.
