Let's raise taxes!

One way to help with the begining game doldrums (the begining does seem to be the slowest, once you get a few systems under your belt things get interesting) is to increase the amount of taxes that population pays. I make almost as much in income from metal as I do in taxes, when you figure that 1 metal = 2 credits. Almost all of it gets sold. Lower the amount of metal mines a bit, and bump the tax rate up from 0.3 to 0.5.

Also, if you increase the pop growth rate it makes the begining go way faster as well, and this doesn't really change anything in game except maybe how fast you recover after your bombed I guess.

I wouldn't mind raising taxes at the expense of lowing loyalty.

I spy a galciv type comment there. Again, I wouldn't mind a tax rate type thing as well. My biggest issue at the moment is getting enough money in (before that, it was crystal . . . then I found a few ice planets)

I agree, as well as perhaps changing the work loads on extractors to 24 hours from the default 8 hours at the cost of culture (like your being cruel to your people) or something. This would triple or increase the speed at which you get resources, but you can still only get X amount from each mine.

Personally, I would prefer to minimize planet-level micromanagement.

Still, something about the metal/cash relationship needs to be changed, and increasing base tax revenue seems like a reasonable idea.

if your having trouble with getting money then it's a simple fix. trade ports. TEC is the economic juggernaut. by the time i take one star I've got enough income in 5 minutes to completely replenish my fleet. basically if it's not front line don't put anything but a trade port there(and a refinery). if it's front line, shipyards. when the lines move, replace logistical buildings with trade ports. might want to scatter a few broadcast stations. take an arid world and thats an economic super planet.

seriously. unless you absolutely HAVE to have shipyards tieing up your logistic points there is no reason to be in need of anything economicly with TEC after and hour or two. Also, refineries on ice worlds = mega crystal.
