Registration Problem

Sorry to send a registration problem to the bug report area, but I didn't know where else to send it. This is my first visit to the site.

I have just purchased a new-and-sealed copy of GalCiv II on eBay, and I am having a problem registering it.

This copy of GalCiv II is from Paradox Interactive. The registration area has a special entry for Paradox registrations - but my copy does NOT start with the three-digit Collector's Code mentioned in the registration area.

I've tried registering it as a normal copy, a collector's copy, and a Paradox Collector's copy - but none of these are successful. They are all rejected.

Any clues as to why this registration is being rejected??

Cheers,

Dave

They are all rejected.

What is the exact error message you receive, and what is the format of the serial (ex. NNNNN-NNNNN-NNNN, etc)?

Hello Kryo. Thanks for the reply.

The error message is:

"Error 4: Invalid Serial Number"

..and the serial number I'm using (which is on CD 2, not the jewel box. There is nothing on the box), is an unformatted string of mixed alphanumerics, 30 characters in length. The first four digits are "4E10".

Cheers,

Dave

A game serial should only be 28 characters, so I'm not sure what you've got there exactly that you're trying to use.

Please contact [email protected]. You should receive an automated response shortly after you send the mail with your ticket number; if you don't, check your spam/bulk folders.

If you can't email support or get no response at all, you can submit a ticket directly through this page. Just click next, then fill out the form and submit it (no need to log in or register there).

Hello Kryo.

My mistake - the serial number was 28 characters long, not 30. I seem to have gone partly blind as a result of typing it into a registration form a couple of dozen times.

I contacted Stardock support as you suggested. They told me to contact Paradox Interactive.

I contacted Paradox Interactive. No reply, other than an automated response. Their site is quite interesting, though. There are complaints from several countries there - apparently Stardock's foreign distributors frequently get the serial number wrong.

I contacted Stardock again, and was told that my registration number had been previously used, despite the fact that I bought it from a shop (not an individual)on ebay as "brand new and sealed".

Stardock support suggested that I either buy a license, or download the file at https://www.stardock.com/files/GalCiv2_10X_BonusPack_030806.exe, which doesn't need registration.

This file doesn't work either. Having run it, all I get is a "Can not run Activate.exe" message. This happens even after a clean install.

My opinion of Stardock's online registration scheme is unprintable. I have no opinion about the game itself, since I'm unlikely to ever play it. I'm stuck with version 1.0, which seems to be as robust as any other version 1.0 product.

In summation, based on my own experience, I would say that due to the online registration scheme, GalCiv2 is:

1. Unsafe to purchase secondhand.
2. Unsafe to purchase from a shop.
3. Unsafe to purchase from a distributor.

... but thanks for your help, anyway.

Hello again Kryo,

Well, having lost my temper earlier I have now been properly rewarded. The mistake was mine all along. I must have transposed two letters of the registration number. I had one final try, and it worked perfectly.

I have written groveling apologies to support ....

Cheers,

Dave
