WindowBlinds 5.51 Shareware Released

Change the look and feel of Windows XP, Windows Vista with WindowBlinds

http://www.windowblinds.net

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 5.51 which adds 64-bit support for Windows Vista.  WindowBlinds is a program that can change the entire look and feel of Windows XP or Windows Vista by applying a new "skin" to the Windows user interface.  These skins (also known as visual styles) can change title bars, push buttons, the Start bar, scrollbars, and nearly every other part of the Windows interface.  Thousands of free skins are available to give Windows a whole new theme.

WindowBlinds 5.51 not only adds support for running on 64-bit Windows Vista (32-bit support already available) but also adds support for Vista Aero shadows even on skins that don't explicitly support shadows. WindowBlinds is a free download. Users can register it for $19.95 on its own or purchase it as part of Object Desktop for $49.95 which includes over a dozen additional programs to enhance the Windows experience.

The WindowBlinds home page is http://www.windowblinds.net.  Stardock's home page is https://www.stardock.com

When will we see blurring in the XP version of WB? Also, is that something that's gonna have to be specifically used by a skin or is that gonna be an option we can apply to any skin ourselves, i.e. through options or something?

dwax: If you look on the System Information page in Wbconfig, you should see that you have build 97 (XP) or build 110 (Vista)

With WindowBlinds installed the system takes a noticeably longer time to log on.

I'd like to see what the shadows would look like on a skin that already has them.

I wouldn't get all happy just yet. Last time I tried Windowblinds for Vista (x64) a few days ago... it has a nice bug that makes your system tray icons double the size.... very interestly odd bug if you ask me.

It doesn't seem that anyone else is having this problem.. Maybe if you asked for help you would get some.

If a skin sets a very large titlebar height, your system tray icons will also resize.  This is true on XP and 64 bit Vista (though not 32 bit Vista)

It does get annoying doesn't it.

I'd also like to figure out how to turn on these "new shadows". Any suggestions?

Why on earth did you guys do that?!

Yep that is what Neil did; he decided that when a skinner makes a skin with a large titlebar height he would make WindowBlinds break the system tray icons.

Wait what? That wasn't directed twords HIM, more like me being angry at the fact that Stardock would willingly release WB with a bug they knew exsisted. As if they really didnt care about it.

If you guys knew of this "bug" why did you release wb with it? Not exactly a bright idea eh?

I think I had this happen with Luna when I was adjusting the titlebar height or something.

When I upgraded to WB 5.51, I ended up with a couple of minor problems...

Since when do I apply Luna on Vista?

Aero applies fine anyway, though.

And what happened to font smoothing? When I use a WindowBlinds skin, it seems to go away in select places such as the Start Menu and on icon text.

Didn't have these problems on 5.5. Oh well, Vista is still new, hopefully small things like this will be worked out in 6.0.

This has been a quirk for many releases, my guess is it is an OS thing of system tray and I have also seen it with quick launch icons being tied to titlebar height.

This quirk also goes the other way, small titlebar height gives small tray icons.

WB does work around some Windows quirks but to work around all would be a tall task.
