Uh, this is not working right

Everyone was a newbie at this one time or another so here goes:

I wanted to replace the Terran Alliance with my own per request from a friend. When I select that race from the selection screen it takes me to the previous race I was or a custom race screen and not the replaced one. Since I am new at this I have no idea where the problem lies so I need a bit of help. I can provide the XMLs if needed. So far I have only modified the raceconfig and customplanets xmls. This is probably a common problem but still I don't know where to begin.

OK. there is an xml file called MapRaceInfo. I think you need to mod the files in that too, or it will still appear as the terrans, I don't know why.

I changed it but I am getting something strange. It is as if the race doesn't work at all. It is visible with the logos and the portrait in the race selection screen but when I select and proceed I get something different as if the race was skipped.

Okay, I think I know the problem, I had this too. Make sure that <Race Name="Whatever"> is the same as <Display Name>Whatever</Display Name>.

.. That could be it! Well given my past modding experience what I did would usually constitute a 'replacement' but GalCiv could be much different than I thought.
