Suggestion about Light Frigates

Dont underestimate the importance of this.

Light Frigates should be renamed to Assault Frigates.

The problem with Light Frigates is its name relationship with Heavy frigates. If you have light..where are the heavies?. Heavy frigates ( kodiaks ) replace light frigates in late game.but I believe that the replacement from light frigate to heavy frigate is wrong.

It is only right IF both light and heavy frigates are both used during the late game or if you have both units at the start to choose from.

Light Frigate -----> Heavy Frigate . Wrong ,metality suggests that one just replaces the other because it is heavier.. . Your early army is apparently "light" ??? why? sounds wrong. Late game ,your now only using the heavy stuff why heavy?. Why not the light stuff? does this reveal strategy limitations of Sins?

Assault Frigate ----> Assault Cruiser . Better..suggests an upgrade in technology and chassis design. both units sound like they can be potential bulk army units. better. Assault Frigate as you mainstray unit ,good sounds better.

Please dont underestimate this importance. Supreme commander got it ****ed up when they called their T3 bots "siege bots".. people were crying things like "waaaaah , the siege bots replace my T2 assault tanks ..when they are suppose to only be siege".

We will review the names of everything except those tied directly to the lore and you have some good points. At this time the only comment I wanted to address is that Cobalt frigates (light frigates at the moment) do have a very important late game application in that they can be upgraded to become counters to the antimatter dependent cruisers (check out their late game ability). A number of the ships in Sins are designed to shift their roles over the course of the game and one of our primary goals is that no unit EVER becomes obsolete.

Edit: On a related note the SupCom comment reminded me of a similiar problem we are currently having. The Krosov Siege Frigates seem to be misleading some players into thinking they are for taking out structures when the 'siege' we meant was 'planet bombing'. This classification may also shift.

Will their be another class of warships or only the current three? And do all the races have the same amount of ships? Also, I know its not related but will more lore be released over the course of development? Stories, Ship Descriptions, etc.. etc..?

Probably. I'd expect you won't get immediate answers to your other question either.

Good and sound suggestions. I'm sure they will be given the proper due.

Yes, please keep ALL the Units useful.

I mean, just because Destroyers today don't have as much firepower as the Giant Cruisers doesn't mean the Destroyers are the "Early Game Units".

What I really liked about this game was that when I play it, I find the best combinations to be balanced choices with emphasis on paticular strageties over SPAM and STRIKE.

Light Frigates should most definetly, imo, be named assault frigates, to have a clarification from other games.

Light is a term defined by the VG community as "Inferior, cheap, and early"
Assault can be defined as "Effective, small, and cheap"

SUPCOM had such a small level of foresight in their unit design. As a result
1. All the Factions were too similiar
2. Lack of Creative or paticularly cool units. (My Siege Bot vs ur Siege Bot)
3. And Low Tier Units were replaced by High Tier Units, effectivly killing half of the units in the game.

It's just not that neccessary nor is it fun. I mean, imagine if I played the game, and found that a two Cruiser combination could destroy any combination of Frigates/Cruisers/Captial Ships. The Result would turn into a "Early Game/Late Game" build, which is not only overly cliched (C&C), but not that deep in thought either.

I mean, players shouldn't be forced or have to use the Cobalt, I just want it to be a choice. (Think Starcraft, where the Marines were ALWAYS effective)

Regards.

PS: Don't nerf the Pirates too much and improve the AI.

Can i just quickly add something ?

Can you please change the capital-ships a bit more, currently i still feel that they are too similar in size and use. For instance The Kol and the Colony -Capital ship are used much in the same way other than the ability to colonize planets, they have much the same armament and are almost exactly the same size. Please, just make them at least a bit more physicaly different. Thank you. Also: could you please add one or 2 destroyers in to act as sort of all-around good units that have no clear counter, Sins really needs a ship like that ATM since almost every unit (besides some cap.ships) seems to have a very clear counter, plus the cruiser's need one more real combat ship, just to make things interesting.

The Cruisers don't need another combat ship, all they need is for the Kodiak to receive a significant boost in firepower. Put some Autocannon Turrets on it for multiple fields of fire and it will be perfect. And maybe throw on a missile launcher or two for good measure. And then just increase its logistics cost and production cost.

I fully agree. The Kodiak is kind of like a lazy fat lady now with no passion. She needs to be a Bitch (yes with a capital "b") with lots of teeth and she happens to have a major toothache and your the sugar sales man. But I digress...

wouldn't it be awesome if it had continuous autocannon turret fire?

I think that would be way overkill. But I have not seen the other factions yet so who knows.
