Top 10 Most Hated Words on the Internet

Top 10 Most Hated Words on the Internet

After this, I have to write a blog about a webinar covering wikis

Aren't buzzwords fun?  They tend to take on a life of their own, especially in the tech world, and somehow work their way into regular everyday language.  How many people do you know that are familiar with the term "Blog" and are comfortable using it in a regular conversation?  However, despite their widespread use, sometimes they can be quite annoying.  I personally feel like punching someone when they seriously use the term "Blogosphere".

Turns out I'm not the only one who hates that word.  UK polling company YouGov recently conducted a poll of Internet users asking them for their most hated web terms.  At the top of the list is the word "Folksonomy" (a web classification system) and closely followed by:

  • Blogosphere
  • Blog
  • Netiquitte
  • Blook
  • Webinar
  • Vlog
  • Social Networking
  • Cookie
  • Wiki

What are you're most-annoying web terms?

I am often annoyed by the use of "you're" when the appropriate word is "your".

And I'm frequently annoyed by the use of "your" when it should be "you're".

Definately is another...should be 'definitely'

Why so much google hate? they got to be so big because they provided a good service the right way. no bloat on the website like msn, yahoo, aol, ask.com or any others. and its so customizable with extensions for firefox and the ilk.

Why so much google hate?

Umm, let's see! Yeah, that'd be the obtrusive & invasive advertising in most everything Google touches, Google's ideas to dominate the internet and eventually the world...oh, and one day, when Google succeeds in its hostile takeover of NASA, the universe.

i think i read that book in High School

Was that the one where Brer Rabbit put Brer Fox's tail in the campfire while he was asleep, and thereafter he was known as firefox??

The word 'hate' when you mean 'dislike'. In a lot of cultures 'hate' is synonymous with violence and anger. Hate is an over-emotive word used far too frequently and far too casually.

A vulcan lecturing someone on being "over-emotive" ...
Never saw that coming

Be careful, you never know what kind of Vulcan you are speaking to

Podcast
Vodcast

Both irritating beyond belief. Mainly because they presuppose the use of a specific mass marketed device, nonwithstanding the fact that both can be used on any suitable generic media player. In fact, to call an extended soundfile or radioshow a 'podcast' is merely confusing to anyone not familiar with the dialect, and adds nothing to suitable synonyms for those that are.

Could be worse...

Ah, Fudd-speak, eh .....still it's a darned sight better than all that 1337 gobbledygook. At least Elmer doesn't put shit back to fwont.

Getting back to the word Vista ... don't you think that they should have kept the name Longhorn? An also Windows Vienna. That should have stayed Windows Blackcomb.

NETIZEN.

Kill it, burn it in a fire.

Hehe. I'm with you on that one.

The phrase "Google it" is a little annoying at times but it means what it says, so I use it.
